Hermione crept silently across the backyard of the Burrow. She needed to get Ron’s attention. She picked up a rock and tried to throw it at Ron’s bedroom window but it just hit the side and fell with a thud to the ground. So much for that plan. Hermione looked around for another solution. Aha! The Weasleys’ broom shed! Hermione tiptoed towards the shed when something munched on her ankle. Hermione looked down to examine what had bitten her. It was a gnome. She bent down slowly and when she got close enough to the gnome, she grabbed it and threw it over the fence. Now, back to the mission. She walked towards the shed. Once she was there, she pulled her wand out.
“Alohomora!” Yes! The door opened. She grabbed Ginny’s broom and sat on it. She had never ridden on a broom before, but she had watched Harry do it at Quidditch games. It couldn’t be that hard. She kicked off the ground and flew into the air. She was doing it! Uh-oh! She hit a tree and almost fell off the broom. Hermione was hanging onto it by one hand. This wasn’t good. She pulled herself up and onto the broom. She was almost to Ron’s room. Now, to get Ron’s attention. She knocked on the window. Ron didn’t stir.
“Ron!” Nothing. “Ron! Ron, wake up!”
Ron stirred. He rubbed his eyes and sat up. Ron looked towards his window and saw Hermione peering through it. He jumped out of bed and ran to the window.
“Ron, open up the window!”
He slid open the window and stuck his head outside. “What the blazes are you doing here in one in the morning?”
“I’m worried about Harry. I’m going to find him, and you are too.”
“How did you get up here?”
“Ginny’s broom. May I come in?”
“Uh, ya. Of course.” Hermione crawled through the window. “Hermione, Harry’s fine.”
“No he isn’t Ron. Harry’s your best mate. And you don’t want to go looking for him? That is cruel. Well, maybe you won’t go looking for him, but I will.” Hermione turned to leave, but Ron ran and blocked the window.
“Of course I want to look for Harry if he is in trouble, but I just don’t think he is in trouble. How about we wait for a couple of days, and if Harry doesn’t write to us, then we will go looking for him. Okay?”
“Fine.” Hermione sat down on the floor and Ron fell onto his bed.
“So, how are you?”
“Ron,” Hermione couldn’t finish her sentence before a white stag galloped into Ron’s room.
“Harry’s patronus!”
The stag opened its mouth and started talking in Harry’s voice. “Message to Hermione. Do not come looking for me. No matter what, I am going to die. Stay…Ahhh!” and with that, the stag evaporated into thin air.
“Oh, Harry! Did you hear that yell? That was a yell filled with pain. I told you Ron. He is in trouble. Lets go.” Hermione started walking towards the window when Ron interrupted.
“Where is he? Hermione, we don’t even know where he is.”
“Well, I can track the patronus from where it got sent and if I am right, that will be where Harry is!”
“You can do that?”
“If you did your homework, you could do that too! Now, to get to work.”
