Alex hadn't eaten in three days and she cried so much that the only sleep she got was when she passed out from lack of water. She hadn't been to school in weeks and she couldn't stop crying, everything she saw or thought about had a connection to Jayden and it made the tears she wished she could hide flow again and again.
Alex's parents helped her eat and drink water, dropping off some light foods and cold water or milk and cookies in her room every so often, they left her alone mostly, hoping that she would get through this on her own.
Jayden's funeral had been hard for Alex. She had to leave early because she could hardly bare to be there. During the funeral Alex had felt another unexplainable feeling, someone's hand rub her arm reassuringly. Again, when she looked to see who was there, there was no one. She ignored the feeling again and had gone home, starring out the window of her father's truck.

When Alex finally got up the courage to go to school she didn't have the strength to wear anything but sweatpants and a themed tshirt, her hair pulled up in a messy bun. She stayed silent in all her classes and didn't talk to anyone all day, she took the bus home at the end of the day and she didn't smile at all, she didn't have the heart to anymore.
She made the mistake of looking over at the seat where Jayden used to sit in her math class, when she didn't see him there she had buried her head in her arms and laid them on her desk, silently crying.
No one talked to her at school, she was used to that, but now she got sideways glances and some pathetic looks of sympathy. She didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her, because she knew they couldn't feel truly sad about Jayden's death, they didn't even know him.

Alex was standing outside the school, waiting for the bus, her head down as she searched through her music, her ear buds in as she tuned out the world. She felt someone put their head on her shoulder and she caught a quick glimpse of their shoes, she recognized those shoes.
"Jayden?" she whispered, looking up, there was no one there. Alex looked around tears coming to her eyes. She knew she way him, at least she saw his shoes, the white vans he kept clean and he loved more than any other pair of shoes. She had even seen the little heart she drew on the side of the sole with a permanent marker several years before, "JJ" Written in tiny letters inside the heart.
Alex felt the tears coming again. What was happening to her? She kept feeling things and now she saw what she thought were Jayden's feet in his shoes. She felt like she was losing her mind.
