After history, Alex walked out of the classroom, saying a quick "Thank you!" to her teacher as she did every class period. She pulled out her ear buds and plugged them into her ears, pressing play on her music app. Her favorite songs started playing and she walked quickly to the library. She didn't like eating the schools lunch because first of all, it was gross, and second of all, she hated always sitting alone in the cafeteria.
Jayden had physics this hour, he had lunch before Alex did so she was always alone for lunch and mostly all of her classes. Alex sat down in the far back corner of the library where she always did, tunning the world out with her music and pulling out her journal, she doodled in the pages margins and traced around the Polaroid of her and Jayden taped in the top left corner of the page.
Poetry had always been a strong suit of Alex's, which she was proud of, because she felt she could do close to nothing else, she was horrible in school and barely passed with D's in science, history, and math. She couldn't even remember what a pronoun was on most occasions and had the same four hair styles each week, completely down, some up some down, ponytail, and a bun, so she felt she didn't even have skills most teenage girls did in looks.
Alex looked up from her doodling to see a group of three girls walk in the library, she looked away as they went to sit on the opposite side of the room from her. They were three of the "popular girls" and they were complete brats.
Jayden sat in the back of his physics class, thinking. He was thinking of her, Alex. He had tried to get her same lunch but couldn't take physics any other hour and it was required to move onto senior year. He sighed softly. Pulling his phone out under his desk and texting Alex. He smiled at the contact picture she had set as hers several months ago. It was her smiling so wide it was almost blinding, as she struck a fancy pose, her eyes crossed as she looked toward the camera.
He smiled wider at the memory of taking that picture of her, it had been during the summer, when the two of them were wandering and looking for something to do. They had stumbled upon a yoga class being held at a large pack and Alex had immediately started copying them from behind. She lost track of where they were in their poses and started posing on her own as jayden took pictures of her. He held back a laugh as he imagined the faces she pulled and the poses she struck.
'Hey, how's lunch?' Jayden texted her.
A few moments later she answered 'Boring, you?'
He smiled 'Wish I was being bored with you.' he answered
'Aw, so chivalrous of you!'
'Just doing my job... 😘'
'Haha, 😘'
Jayden felt a pang of sorrow, he wanted to tell Alex just how he felt about her, how much he wanted her, but he wasn't sure if she felt the same way. He wouldn't tell her, not yet, at least not today.
Jayden put his phone away and tried to pay attention, but nothing seemed to sink in, everything the teacher said felt like it was floating right through him. Jayden pulled open his sketch book from under his desk and started sketching. That was one of his hidden talents. He could draw anything he wanted, but he was especially great at people. He started sketching her, the girl he couldn't stop thinking about. She was looking away from his point of view, looking at something no one but her sketched eyes could see.
Her eyes gleamed and full lips reflected off unseen light. He hid his sketch from prying eyes of other students in his class.
He hid it because she was his, and his alone. He was head over heels for her and she didn't even know it. Although Alex and Jayden told each other everything, this was one of the first things he wasn't sure he could tell her. He was so afraid that his feelings for her would rip their friendship apart. Was it wrong to not tell her? It felt wrong to him personally, because holding the truth from her was tearing at his heart and making it harder and harder to breath night after night and every single time he saw her. The girl of his dreams.
