January 2nd

"Are you ready, Darling?" Adelaide asked as she walked out of the bedroom. She was already dressed for work since she would have to go straight from the appointment to the Museum. Sherlock, who had been ready for two hours since he had gone to drop off Teddy with the Watsons, looked up from his mobile and hopped out of the chair, dashing over to the door with a bright smile.

"Of course I am ready, Lovey. I've ordered the taxi and reviewed the general order of events for the appointment as well," He answered as he slipped her coat onto her shoulders. When he realized she wasn't wearing a scarf he immediately whipped his off, "Why isn't your scarf on, Adelaide?"

"Because I didn't think I needed it..?"

"It's too cold for you to go without one," Sherlock chided softly as he arranged the long strip of purple cloth around Adelaide's neck, "There. Now you're sufficiently protected from the cold."

"Oh, Sherlock..," She sighed with a smile and then kissed his cheek, "Come on, Darling, we'll be late to check in."

"Of course, Angel."

While the nurse who was working the clinic desk nearly fell out of her chair when she saw Sherlock Holmes and his wife walk up to check in, and a few of the other patients came up to ask for autographs and make small talk, the rest of their pre-appointment wait was relatively quiet and quick. A PA came and retrieved the two before Sherlock could get any more jumpy.

After her vitals were taken, the blood and urine tests were performed by another nurse. Then the two sat anxiously and waited for their OB/GYN to come in with the results.

Finally Doctor Noreen Lear stepped in with a promising smile, "Good Morning, Missus and Mister Holmes."

"Good Morning, Doctor."

Doctor Lear walked the rest of the way in and asked, "So, how have you been keeping Missus Holmes?"

"Oh, just fine."

"You're forgetting to mention that you've had two syncopes since Christmas." Sherlock inserted.

"Sherlock, I was going to mention it after she confirmed it!" Adelaide hushed, nudging him in the ribs. Doctor Lear chuckled at their antics, "Did the tests come back positive, Doctor?"

"Indeed they did! Congratulations! Your HCG levels are where they should be. You're about four weeks along judging by those. We gave you a basic screening and everything else is at a healthy level."

Adelaide and Sherlock grinned and tightened their grips on each other's hands. He leaned down and kissed her cheek sweetly, "At last, confirmation, Angel."

"Yes, Darl." She whispered back and kissed his cheek in return. Doctor Lear smiled warmly at them before continuing.

"So, have you had any other symptoms besides syncope, Missus Holmes?"

"Er, no. Not yet anyways. Just the fainting and low blood pressure."

"I see. Well, your blood vessels are swelling to accommodate more blood, which can cause syncope in some women due to the lowered blood pressure. It's nothing to really be concerned about right now- it should stop completely after the first trimester. If you start to have more symptoms just call the clinic and let us know."

"Alright, Doctor. Should I be doing anything else now that I'm officially pregnant?"

"Just make sure you're taking supplements and maintaining a balanced, healthy diet. Exercise regularly, of course, and increase your intake. Other than that, I think that covers it," Doctor Lear answered and took a breath, "Your next visit will be in five weeks- we'll do your first sonogram then and as well as another round of bloodwork. You can schedule the next appointment at the desk-"

"If at all possible, could the nurse come back here so we don't have other people eavesdropping?" Sherlock questioned. The doctor considered it and then nodded.

"I understand. I'll send a nurse in to take care of the scheduling. Other than that, any more questions or concerns?"

Adelaide shook her head and Sherlock seconded the motion. The former replied, "No, I think we're good. Thank you, Doctor Lear." They all shook hands.

"My pleasure, Missus Holmes. I'll see you in five weeks!"

Doctor Lear stepped out to attend to another patient and a nurse came in as promised. After setting up the next two appointments, the Holmeses left the clinic and hailed a cab to the Museum, wearing blissful smiles the entire way. Sherlock followed her to her office and to his relief, it was empty. He shut the door behind them and then embraced her from behind, "I Love You, Adelaide."

She giggled and turned around, touching her forehead to his as she wrapped her arms around him, "I Love You too, Sherlock."

He pressed his lips against hers and they shared a couple deep kisses before he spoke again, "I wish we could've confirmed it sooner, Angel."

"It's confirmed now and that's what matters, Honey," She hummed and they kissed a bit more before reluctantly pulling away, "As much as I want to keep this up, I need to start work, Darling."

"I should be getting to the Yard too," He sighed, "Promise me that if you feel faint or ill that you'll tell someone and call me?"

Adelaide nodded, "I promise."

"Excellent," Sherlock chirped, "Then I will get going, Lovey. I will see you this evening."

"Alright. See you then, Darl!" After one last goodbye kiss he left for the Yard and Adelaide took up her post with a glittering smile.

But for the rest of the day, the both of them had trouble focusing on anything else besides the welcome news.

Love y'all!! 😘❤
