"What?" Daniel and I both asked Jason
Jason blinked and looked at both of us.
"You heard me right. Now 2415, or Daniel, we both know that 1415 is an older version of the androids but he's special. So don't terminate him like you did with the others," Jason told Daniel.
I felt my eyes grow wide automatically. Jason didn't even use my human name. And Daniel terminated the others?! I turned around and started walking out but Jason stopped me with giving me an order. I turned around and faced them. Slowly, I walked towards them. Up close, you couldn't even tell that Daniel is an android. Strange. I looked at my arm and I could see my gears and rods and blue and red wires representing blood vessels. I looked at Daniel and he shot me an angry expression. Like he wanted to get rid of me here and now. Which I was okay with. I don't want to be an android anymore. Then that got me thinking. I stepped away from Daniel and asked Jason if we could talk privately. He nodded his head and Jason and I went out into the hallway. We made eye contact. Now or never Adam, I told myself.
"Do I have parents? Like actual human parents?" I asked
Jason shook his head at me and sighed.
"1415, I mean Adam. You are an android. Now get this through your head. YOU HAVE NO PARENTS! You are a robot and you're a mistake," he shouted at me.
I felt upset. Why did his attitude change suddenly? I watched him walk away and I swear I heard him mutter "I should have gotten rid of him a long time ago." I frowned. Jason doesn't want me anymore? I felt like crying but couldn't. I realized that he called me a mistake. But he always said I was special! Did he lie? I leaned up against the wall and slid down until I sat down. I hugged my knees to my chest and replayed the recording of Jason yelling at me. I was checking for lies. After twenty minuets of watching, I found nothing. I felt something beside me. I focused and saw Daniel sitting next to me. I scooted over away from him.
"What do you want?" I asked angrily
Daniel looked at me and held out his hand. I started at it with a confused expression but he made me put his hand on it. It felt like a human hand! I jerked it away and started at him.
"Adam, I'm ninety-five percent human and five percent android. Go ahead and scan me," Daniel said.
I took a deep breath and went ahead and scanned him. He's right! He is 95% human! Daniel has a real heart and everything else is human except for his brain and spinal cord. It's weird. I blinked and stopped scanning him. I couldn't breath and felt a sharp pain in my chest. It felt like someone was squeezing my lungs. Daniel touched my chest and the pain stopped. I shot to my feet and balled my fists. I watched him get to his feet and look around nervously. He went near me and whispered in my ear
"We need to talk in your room where their not listening."
He pulled away and I started at him blankly. Why would they be listening? I thought. Then Daniel and I took off running down the hall towards my room. After a few minuets, we reached it and went in. Daniel locked the door and shot the little blue light that was in the corner of my room. He told me it was a monitor. I shook my head and went over to my closet thing. I stood face to face with just plain white clothes. I closed the closet door and went over to my bed. I sat down and Daniel joined me. We made eye contact and somehow I knew I could trust him. He smiled at me. I smiled back and Daniel exclaimed
"Have you ever had daydreams about being human?"
I blinked and stared at him with a blank expression. Then I felt heat rise in my cheeks. I nodded my head slowly and started telling Daniel about twenty-eight years worth of daydreams and everything I ever thought.
