the further we drove up north from busan to seoul, the darker the clouds got. we had the windows opened at first, but closed them since it became chilly the more we drove.

"this car ride is boring." jeno whined, perching his chin on the back of my seat.

"boring huh? you're welcome to jump out if you want?" i joked. he looked at me, narrowing his eyes. i giggled.

"stop flirting, it's disgusting." mark said, raising his eyebrow at us in the rearview mirror.

jeno turned his head. "we should actually be talking about your lack in flirting, seagull." mark immediately started to blush. "i don't know what you're talking about?" mark retorted, trying to save himself, but jeno wouldn't spare him this time.

"rest stop." yukhei called before mark or jeno could say anything.

everyone relaxed as yukhei veered to the right to get off the exit. finally, some food. we pulled into a nearly full parking lot and rushed inside as it started to drizzle.

"pick whatever you want, it's on me." mark offered. he and yukhei then argued about who would offer to pay. yukhei won. but mark said he would drive the rest of the way and yukhei agreed that it was fair.

mark handed each of us 10,000 won to buy something we wanted.

jeno and i put our money together and bought a "big mac together pack" from mcdonald's to share. he took the big mac, and i took the shanghai burger. the girl at the counter asked us what we wanted to drink.

"i'll have coke.""i'll have pepsi."

the two of us looked at each other and started to argue which of the two were better. pepsi of course.

the girl at the register started to laugh at us. "you guys are cute. how long have you been together?"

we blushed of course. "oh- we're not like that." he said. "yeah we're just friends." i added.

she nodded and smiled. "that's what they all say."

did it really seem that way to others?

i shook my head, taking the tray back to the sitting area. jeno and i sat once we found the other three eating their chinese food.

"have you spoken to him?" mark asked.

i nodded.

"has he responded?"

i shook my head.

a silence fell upon us. after a few seconds, hyerin spoke up. "minji... what if we don't find him?"

"we're going to find him."

she went back to eating and so did everyone else, not saying anything else on the matter.

the american 80's music played softly over the loud speaker and filled the rest stop along with chatter of those around us.

(-ω-、)

we got back in the car after everyone used the bathroom and bought whatever they desired. jeno took the third row again. mark and hyerin took the front, and yukhei and i occupied the middle row.

i hadn't slept well in the past few days and i had to admit, the rain pouring against the windows put me right to sleep. yukhei gestured for me to scoot over and use his shoulder to rest on rather than the window.

*author's pov*

minji slept with her head on yukhei's shoulder, unconsciously snuggling up against him. he didn't mind. he was used to hyerin doing it, especially when she was younger.

"minji's asleep?" mark asked.

yukhei snapped his fingers in front of her eyes to see if she'd respond.

"she's out like a light."

"good." mark nodded. "jeno, what the fuck?" he asked, glaring at the younger in the rearview mirror.

jeno squinted his eyes. "i don't know what you're talking about?"

"what happened between you and her, huh?"

"nothing."

"jeno, we all know you're lying." yukhei said softly but firmly, trying his best not to wake minji.

jeno stood quiet. "we kissed..." he mumbled after some time.

mark gripped the stirring wheel tightly. "so you kissed your best friend's girlfriend when he goes missing?" he started to laugh.

"it is kinda fucked up." yukhei muttered.

hyerin spoke too. "jeno, we don't know each other well, but i didn't think you would be the type to do something like that." she frowned.

"well i loved her first!" he shouted.

minji, snuggled up against yukhei more, still asleep.

the car was silent. all that could be heard was the rain drip-dropping as the cars started to slow on the highway.

"i've always liked the girl with lollipops in her pocket." jeno said to himself in a whisper-like voice.

they stayed quiet as the traffic became worse and cars were practically bumper to bumper. all that could be heard was a notification from minji's phone.
