32. the fourth hour

i woke up to the loud honking of car horns while on the highway. we were still stuck in traffic, but it was even worse now than it was before. mark and hyerin were giggling on about something, starry-eyed and all. what did i miss when i was asleep?

i lifted my head and felt a thud on my shoulder. it was yukhei's head. "ow." i whined, nudging him off.

he groggily sat up, opening his eye and clicking his tongue against his lips. he started to rub his ear, right where i nudged him. "ow right back atch ya."

i rolled my eyes and looked up at mark and hyerin. they were smiling and giggling like they always were, but something about them was different. they gave off a different aura. i turned to look at jeno as well. he was staring out the window. at this time, it was nearing 8pm. the streetlights were lighting up his face and i could see his cheeks were flushed and shiny, as if he were crying. what did i miss when i was asleep?

"what's up with you guys huh?" yukhei asked, he must've noticed the change in mark and hyerin as well.

the two of them looked at each other and chuckled.

"well, long story short, jeno owes me 100000 won." mark informed.

jeno perked up. "wait what?"

then we suddenly realized what that meant. well all of us except yukhei.

"really hyerin?! you couldn't have waited another like, 7 months. he would've owed me 100000 won." jeno pouted.

"wait what the hell is going on?" yukhei questioned, completely lost at this point. but when was he not lost.

mark and hyerin explained what happened while everyone was sleeping.

"that'll be a great story to tell your kids." i said, smiling. the two of them really were made for each other.

i thought of donghyuck and remembered i had texted him before i dozed off. i pulled my phone from my pocket kept pressing the home button until the little empty battery popped up. dammit.

"do any of you guys have a charger?" i asked.

"no" "nope" "sorry no"

i'm sure by this time, my mother was probably freaking out, having found out my suspension from school, as well as my unannounced disappearance from home.

it was too late for me to turn back now. i figured i would have to explain things to her one way or another.

"can we make a stop?" i requested.

"there's a 7/11 a few exits from here, if i'm not mistaking. it's dark, so i'm not really sure, but let's keep an eye out for it." jeno said.

yukhei smirked. "we can stop off and get some snacks too."

hyerin turned to her brother and had a mischievous smile spread across her face. "sounds like a good idea."

mark, jeno and i didn't understand what they were smiling at each other for, but we just shrugged it off.

after some time, we did find the 7/11 jeno mentioned.

mark said he would sit in the car and wait for everyone until they came out with what they needed. the rest of us stood next to car in the empty parking spot.

"before we go in, can i just make a quick phone call? i really need to talk to my mom. and i think you guys should when you get the chance."

jeno offered his phone to me, smiling weakly as he handed it over. the rest of them stepped away, allowing me the privacy i wanted.

i plugged in my mom's phone number on the keypad, and held the phone to my ear bracing myself for the argument of a lifetime.

"hello? who is this?"

"hey mom, it's minji."

and all i heard was her starting to cry on the other end. telling me about how worried she was and how she was gonna kick my ass when i came back, but that she still loved me endlessly.

i told her all about the suspension, and about the clues, and how i was on my way to seoul with the whole crew, and she seemed to sympathize with me.

"i know what it's like for a man to leave you're life, and not say where he's going." she said, which of course hurt me to hear. but i could picture her smiling on the other end with tears drying on her cheeks.

i told her i loved her and that i would be home soon, and she told me she loved me back and to stay safe.

i came back to the group and handed jeno back his phone.

"okay so what exactly are we getting? cause i don't have a lot of money on me." i asked.

yukhei and hyerin smiled at each other and then to us.

"put your hoods up before we get in there. i'm gonna set a timer for 3 minutes. once it goes off, just grab whatever you want and run." yukhei explained.

a month ago i never would've pictured myself here, with the wong siblings and lee jeno about to raid a 7/11 with mark lee as our getaway driver on our road trip to find the infamous lee donghyuck. but it was fun. the adventure of it.

we all walked in. hoods up and mouths closed. each of us picking up somethings we were going to "buy". we made ourselves large slurpee's and grabbed chips and sandwiches and candy alike. after about 2 minutes of browsing, we heard the sci-fi alarm on yukhei's phone go off loudly and we all bolted out the door. the cashier shouting some curses as he tried to follow us out. yukhei kicked a large display case of gift cards down, blocking the cashier behind the door.

we rushed out the door and hurried into the car, laughing at the fact we go away with our robbery.

mark stepped on the gas and we all cheered as we left the parking lot.

i grabbed a car charger and cable while in the 7/11 and had mark plug in my phone.

hyerin and yukhei told stories about all the places they robbed when they were kids when they lived in china briefly, and how they carried that over to when they moved to daegu. after about 10 minutes, i saw my phone light up.

i asked mark to pass it to me, so i could quickly check my notifications and then plug it back in for the remainder of the ride.

i almost dropped my phone when i saw there was a message from donghyuck.

i clicked it and felt my heart drop.

donghyuck;
i said, don't come look for me.

dbdvsbifv sorry for not updating. like i posted, i was writing the chapter and i got to 900 words and my computer shut down and nothing saved lol, and i was too burned out to rewrite it that night so hi lol.
