Flair slammed the girls back inside their own apartment then frantically ran about the room grabbing clothes and possessions, and throwing them into several suitcases. Her younger brother Aaron entered the room, halting Flair in her tracks.
"Flair, what's wrong?" he asked calmly.
"The kids left the apartment to give me my identification card and Miss Wilcox saw them. They are coming! We need to leave!" she spat frantically as she pushed past Aaron to get their things.
"You mean...the HDU?" he said, all color draining from his face.
The Human Disposal Unit were the most feared government branch in all of Clovendale.
The city's population expanded dramatically so they declared couples were limited to one child, any siblings were taken away by the HDU to be disposed of. Flair's parents had hidden younger Aaron away and since their death five years ago, the responsibility to keep him safe was hers. This responsibility grew when she began hiding other children in her small apartment that were unable to remain with their families.
Aaron snapped out if his trance and helped Flair with the suitcases. Asher, another of the secret children, also helped while the twins Tula and Rith played with their dolls that were dressed in similar jumpsuits to their own, unaware of the danger they were in.
