It was a sunny afternoon and Cake had decided to have a picnic. Just us girls she said.
Fionna swung from Cake's sling and sighed. "It's so nice today. Breezy too."
"Yup." Cake smiled. "It's the perfect day, especially after rainy season made my fur all poofy."
Fionna giggles. "Yeah, it was really humid that's for sure."
"This should be a good spot." Cake lowered Fionna to the ground and shrunk to her normal size.
Fionna took the baby sling and stuffed it into her backpack. "Did you bring the picnic basket?"
Cake paled. "No."
"What?!" Fionna groaned. "But I'm hungry."
Cake looked sympathetic. "Sorry hun bun, I'll go fly to the house real quick and grab it."
Fionna sat down with a huff. "Ok. Hurry though."
Cake pinched her cheek. "Yeah, yeah, see you in a bit!"
With that, Cake morphs into a furry bird and flies off.

I start picking at the grass as I wait for Cake. That morning dungeon challenge had left me hungrier than a spider-eating penguin.
I lean against the trunk of a tree and close my eyes.
"Fi?"
I open my eyes to a blinding light and I blink to adjust. I fell asleep.
"Who...?"
"Relax Fi, it's just me."
My vision focuses on pale features and red eyes framed by black hair.
"What are you doing napping out here?" Marshall says from under his umbrella.
I rub my eyes and stretch while yawning. "Nothing really, just taking a power nap."
My stomach growls loudly.
Marshall raises a brow, smirking. "Hungry bunny?"
I blush. "Hehe, yeah."
The sun hadn't changed too much so I wasn't out for that long.
"Wanna go grab a pie from Trunks?" He offers. "I asked for one earlier, it might be ready now."
"I can't. Cake will be here soon." I say. "Thanks though."
"Ok, your loss." He shrugs.
"Why would you want pie?" I ask curiously.
"Trunks' raspberry pie is the most delicious shade of red." He said dreamily. "It just tastes SO good."
My stomach growls again.
"Stop making me more hungry Marshall." I laugh.
He chuckles. "Sorry Fi."
He sits down next to me and closes his umbrella. The tree is shaded, so he doesn't need it.
"Ugh I get so bored all the time." He groans, flopping onto his back.
"Hmm? Why?"
"I don't know..." He looks away. "It's like I've done everything and seen everything. It gets boring."
"I bet there are some things you haven't done." I say supportively as I lie next to him.
"Ha! Nah, I've done it all." He says nostalgically. "I've been around for a long time Fi."
"Well you haven't made a friend like me before." I say. "That's different, right?"
He shifts onto his side to face me. "Yeah." He smiles warmly. "I guess you're right."
I realize how close we are, our noses almost touching. I feel heat creeping up my cheeks.
We sit in silence, a tension hanging in the air as Marshall notices too.
His eyes fall from my eyes down to my lips. His cool hand presses gently against my cheek.
He looks back to my eyes, searching. I stare back.
"You're so beautiful, Fi." He whispers, leaning closer. "That it hurts."
He pulls away and swings his umbrella up onto his shoulder, opening it. "I better go. See you around bunny."
I sit there, my cheeks still red. I'm....beautiful?
That's new.
Reckless, adventurous, naive sure.
But beautiful?
Marshall was the one who was beautiful.
"Fionna I got pieeeeeeee!" Cake pummeled from the sky holding a picnic basket.
I sat up and hoped the redness from my cheeks had disappeared.
"What kind?"
"Raspberry pie!" Cake said, lifting the freshly baked pie from the basket.
Ismiled. I don't think Marshall ever got his pie stolen by a shapeshifting cat either.
