Pearl laid upon the star lit grass, counting the individual lights that dotted the clear sky. The moon had cast a soft creamy hue on her face accentuating her rosy cheeks. Although the dew on the grass made it feel impeccably cold on a chilly fall night, the warmth from a nearby portable heater kept her lips and fingers from turning blue.

It was nice, but not really.

Pearl's hand fell to her side, as she let out an exasperated sigh. For almost a week and a half, she felt so empty and emotionless.  It felt as if she was an avocado, dissected into two and her seed removed only to be left out in the open for her creamy sap green to oxidize into an ugly brown. It felt as if her skin withered inwards towards an empty core.

She gripped her chest through her grass stained blouse biting back the tears that pounded at the back of her eyes. Her life had begun to spiral right before prom where she suddenly felt extremely tired and lost interest in all the things she loved. She grew distant with her friends, eventually cutting them off. She would rarely use her phone, and drawing never appealed to her again like it once did.

The grassy field was no longer a new location for Pearl, but a place of solace. The freezing cold winds would make her hands blue, and her body shiver- she loved it. The scorching hot sun would make her face burn and crack, burning her exposed skin and leaving pins and needles every time she touched the injured areas. She loved it.

The sound of of leaved crunching under someones foot perked Pearls attention, and she let her ears guide her head towards the sound. A foot stuck out from a brush overshadowed by a medium sized oak tree. Whoever was hiding, made it very conspicuous where their hiding spot was.
Pearl shifted her weight onto her side, and used her hands to push her off of the ground as she approached the bush with a minimal degree of caution.  The foot shot back in and there was audible grimacing and then silence. She crouched down and pushed a few leaves back to reveal the skeleton of a teenage boy.

"Mama?" it cooed, sticking out its hand to grab her by the wrist.
"I'm sorry?" Pearl pulled out her phone to call law enforcement, but before she could unlock it, the skeleton swatted her device away.
"No!" it cried, flinging its bony arms around pearls shoulders. "Take me home. I'm sleepy."

"No." Pearl contested, prying its hands off of her shoulders but accidentally dislocating a bone.
He yelped, and collapsed backwards ripping off his arms with an audible pop that made Pearl cringe.
"Are you alright?" she said, half halfheartedly "I apologies for hurting you."

"I am empty and hollow. I am dead. I cannot feel pain. Love or lust. I cannot feel."
