Pearl slammed her foot on the breaks, jerking her upper body forward- her head colliding with the wind shield. She swung her face towards the passenger seat, locking her eyes with the skull's empty sockets.  She grabbed the bony digits that clung onto the steering wheel, prying the bone from the grey leather of the wheel. She flung the hand into the skeletons face,  watching the dismembered limb fly and strike the skulls visage.

" I swear to god. If you do that one more time, I'm going to throw you out of my car." she heaved while flipping off a passing sedan that blared their horn; it echoed off into the distance as the vehicle took a left.
"Mama..." it cooed, its bones clacking together to make an audible tapping noise.  He flailed his arms amidst his body, without really any purpose than for the sake of it. Despite being fully grown, the skeleton had the mentality of a toddler.
" Mama look, a butterfly!"

The idle road with dimly dotted with the dull yellow hue of the street lights that cascaded into the distance. Through the corner of her left eye Pearl saw the effigy of a translucently blue butterfly that seemed to outshine everything around it. The world seemed to stop. Her eyes gazed upon the majestic insect, admiring how its wings fluttered rhythmically to her heartbeat. A visual representation of her heart; how it symbolically represents her life, yet something she is no longer accustomed too.  It left a thin speckle of blue, as if its body was materialising into the air.

"Look mama! Its a truck!"

The skeleton's voice resonated through her skull. The flutter of the butterfly's wings ceased and it feathered to the ground, lying motionless. At the same moment, Pearl snapped back into reality and whipped her face forwards just in time to swerve the car and barely avoiding a head on collision with a blue transport truck that towered over her sports car. The screeching of the tires deafened her, and her eyes stung from their close proximity to the trucks headlights. Another familiar blare of the horn echoed through the street. Pearls heart shook her chest, as her hands shook with adrenaline that coursed through her veins.
"That was close."

Red, blue, and white lights beamed into her rear view mirror and into her eyes; she tore her eyes away from her trembling hands and guide the car into the curb. The patrol car followed her promptly, and a middle aged officer rapped his knuckled on her window.
"Good evening. My name is Officer Nick. License and registration please." he said curtly but with such a thick monotone that he sounded like a robot.

Pearl lowered the glass pane, and produced her license and registration from the cubby near her feet, on the left side of the car's interface.  Nick took the papers from her and shifted his weight onto his back leg- almost into an defensive stance.
"Do you know why I pulled you over ma'm?" Nick fiddled with the papers, scanning them quickly to see if they were fakes.

"No." she responded immediately with a hint of confusion in her voice.
Nick turned left to vaguely motion to the incoming traffic before returning his gaze towards Pearl. "You were driving on the wrong side of the road. Have you had anything to drink tonight ma'm?" He said, raising his eyebrows almost as if he already knew the answer. Officers would always catch drunk drivers at late hours, so Pearl wasn't surprised by the question.

"No," she responded "I did not drink."
"Then what is it that can justify your reckless driving."

Pearl tilted her head towards the passenger seat, seeing the skeletons body disfigured and sprawled aimlessly on the seat. She used her nose to point at the skeleton. "It was him. He put his hand on the wheel." She said in dismal of the skeleton's actions.
The officer merely snickered, stepped back and motioned Pearl to pop open the door as his hands slithered around his back to retrieve his handcuffs.

"You will have to come with me ma'm. There is no one beside you."

"Just because you can't see me, doesn't mean I don't exist. I reside within you, and haunt you daily. However, it is not due to resentment, but my admiration towards you. I cannot live without you."
