knife could see the outcome very clearly.

game over.

that's what would happen if he messed up his chance with pickle.

knife had talked to him once or twice. he saw what pickle was going through. pickle's former breakup had been pretty rough, and he didn't even break up with a girlfriend. it was a best friend, one that, according to him, "only used him to give her the upper hand in the little game."

the little game started in his freshman year of high school. rumors began to spread about the emergence of something almost like a contest or a reality show.

and there it was. the english teacher, mr. mephone announced the start of his little reality show project in a effort to get his students to understand the logic and work it takes to develop a suspenseful and drama-injected plot.

a project of eighteen whole weeks, with his entire period four english class. the other students of the freshman class had mr. 4S for english,  who instead made them read about books involving schemes of conquest and world domination (which most people agreed was pretty fulfilling too).

mephone didn't hand out rules for the project. he let anyone be whatever they wanted, and encouraged them to follow their own paths. and the whole class had vowed among themselves to take the path lesser known. the cleaner and less trodden one: the kind and fulfilling one.

and pickle was the only one to fall for someone that later broke the vow.

yes. he fell for her. he just never told her. but knife always thought that was sort of a good thing, anyways.

how mean of her to snatch that prize right from oj, the only one who worked as hard as he did to earn it (and openly flaunted that, too).

but pickle should have known, knife thought. taco was always the weird one. he almost wondered why he never bothered to bully taco- when he used to bully people, anyways. he was eliminated by the other english classes because of how harsh of a guy he seemed.

he realized too late that he had to change his ways and be nicer. almost everyone was very afraid of knife until he openly changed.

their sophomore year soon rolled around, and they all enjoyed getting the sweet, simple authority of being new upperclassmen. other changes happened. 4S disappeared randomly, mr. toilet was hired in his place, and the senior mepad worked with mephone to gain community service credits for his résumé.

but to the horror of most, the period four english class changed. knife was introduced to a mostly new class, but faced the same project as last year.

but he knew that he had to change now if he wanted to go farther than he did before.

lots of things began to change with the people in period four english class. they almost seemed totally off. this was changing them, and the difference was more than just "quite a bit". it was almost nerve-wracking to see their new states, and how people that were totally buddy-buddy in the beginning started to revolt and spurt hatred towards each other.
