Hayes fanfiction♡ part 7- practice

After my long first day was over, I headed over to my locker to put my new supplies and books that Mrs. Turner gave to me from Literature class to study for the exams. In high school everyone knows how challenging exams can be especially if your trying to get extra credit like me.

I was and still am a straight A and B student throughout my whole life, so I had nothing to worry about getting kicked off the cheer squad for poor grades.

It was 3:30 already and cheer tryouts started at 4. Since I didn't have extra gym clothes in my locker, (which I should have packed) I decided to head home really quick to grab my cheer clothes that I always wore from the previous year to cheer practice.

I crossed the street and started to speed walk because I realized what the time was on my neon watch. Being late for a cheer tryout is the worst way to start off. I was always early to my cheer practices and I wasn't going to be late for this one.

After 5 five minutes of speed walking, I started to jog and then that turned into running. I lived 2 blocks away from the school. After a long run i was out of breath when I finally reached my house. The driveway to my surprise was empty, meaning my parents weren't home.

Like my parents always did if I was coming home late and didnt have the house keys, they would leave the key under the door mat. I reached down and took the key from under and slid it into the door handle and opened to my new scented house.

I walked in and found a note on the dining room table that read, "Picking up your sister Kara from school, will be back in an hour after we run some arons, Love,

Mom

I placed the note back on the table and raced upstairs to my room. Some of my luggage a were still left lying on the floor. I dug through some of my clothes and found my gym clothes. I put on my lulu lemon tank top that was white colored, for my shorts i put on my black booty shorts that were for cheer, and lastly I put on ankle socks with my white ked shoes that were super comfortable.

I tied my hair up in a pony tail, applied mascara headed downstairs. I went into the kitchen to fetch myself some water, because honestly cheer tryouts are a real workout. I opened the front door and closed it behind me. I checked my watch and it read 3:50. I decided to text my mom that I was going to tryouts so she wouldn't freak the hell out.

To mom:

Heading to cheer tryouts for school, be back in a few hours. Xoxo

I ran as fast as I could. I felt the cold breeze in between my hair and rushing into my face rapidly. After a ass kicking run i reached my high school. Ocean view high school. I ran into the hallway and searched for the gym. After finding it I speed walked over and swung the door open, and found myself looking at 5 others girls who were in line to sign the tryout papers. It took me a couple minutes to catch my breath from that tiring run, but I finally managed.

I found Brianna talking to 4 other girls who looked snobby and competitive. On the bleachers behind her were Sloan, Gavin, a girl I've never seen before and..and..to my surprise Nathan! I immediately fixed my hair mess from the running and made sure i looked presentable.

I felt pressured because so many people were watching and felt like they were especially watching me. Brianna turned around and when her eyes met mine she immediately smiled and waved at me. Brianna was wearing a neon pink top that showed her belly button with black booty shorts, her blonde hair was styled in a bun and one neon green stripe on her two cheeks. "Mary! Over here!" She said with another bright smile.

I walked over and her a hug, "Hey." I said while fixing my pony tail. "Sloan, Gavin and Nathan thought it would be a good idea to come and support you!" She said while fluttering her eyes lashes. I smiled shyly at the thought of Nathan and said "Thats really sweet." I tucked a loose strand from my pony tail behind my ear and waved shyly to Nathan. He smiled his amazing smile and and waved back.

Brianna examined both Nathan and I for a moment and just blurted out to me "You like Nathan" she giggled. I was embarrassed that it was pretty obvious that I liked him. "What?" I said with a slight smile. She nudged my shoulder and said "You heard me." She laughed. I tried to take her seriously but I failed. I looked at her then looked away, but she smiled. "Ok, maybe a little bit." I half lied, I liked him a lot.

After all the forms for tryouts were filled out and the chattering of girls stopped, the gym coach who was named Ms. Baker blew the whistle and ordered the girls to line up in a straight line. "Now, I want you girls to yell out your names when I point to you, got it?!" Ms. Baker said half yelling.

The girls all nodded their heads together, when Brianna who was next to me turned her head and smiled giving me a 'good luck' look on her face. "Can I please have the cheer captain to come up and stand with me." Ms. Baker said. Brianna stepped out of line and stood still not wanting Ms. Baker to snap at her.

Ms. Baker started pointing and immediately the girls responded, "Annalise!" then she pointed to another, "Kate!" Then another, "Hope!" Then another, "Serena!" And then finally..."Mary!" Ms. Baker blew the whistle meaning to 'stop' "Very good girls, now I want the team captain to introduce herself." Ms. Bakers' voice echoed. "Hi I'm Brianna, and I'm going to be your team captain for today." Brianna smiled and waved looking at the girls.

"Ok girls, their will be two obstacles, Brianna will be at one and I will be at the other. We will be observing how well you complete these obstacles by giving you scores at the end when you complete it. Sounds good?" Ms. Baker explained. Everyone nodded. I took a quick glance at Nathan on the bleachers because I seriously can't stop staring. "Brianna, you are going to pick what girls go to one of the obstacles." Ms. Baker nodded.

"Ok, obstacle number one is where Im observing. Kate, Mary and Hope you'll be at obstacle one with me." Brianna said while waving us over. "Ok, Brianna will take you from there, good luck girls." Ms. Baker said with a smile.

-After cheer tryouts-

After the tryouts were over, I was dehydrated and exhausted. I sat down on the first bleacher and took a long sip of my water. A girl with light brown hair with brown hairs come over and sits next to me, she reaches out her hand to shake mine while saying "You did a really good job." She smiled and i smiled back while shaking her hand, "Thanks, It's Hope..right?" I asked. She set her water down and wiped a sweat drop on her forehead and said, "Yeah you got my name right! Haha"

After 2 minutes of sitting in exhaustion, Sloan, Gavin and Nathan come down from the top bleacher. "Ahhh!! Mary you did so well, I didn't know you could do such flips and tucks! Haha." Sloan said while giving me a hug. "Yeah you really did a good job." Nathan said and touched my shoulder. I froze. I was speechless, I just didn't know what to say when Nathan all of a sudden touched my shoulder! So I simply just smiled very awkwardly. Yet I felt so many butterflies, I liked this feeling.
