iv. SYMPATHY FROM THE DEAD
Where am I? Why am I just standing here? The clouds, they're gray; must be a storm coming up from the north. It's so quiet for being such a big town. Where is everybody?
A big clap of thunder shook through my ears. I looked up at the sky, and I saw a murder of crows approaching in the sky. Nine of them soared through the gray sky. I watched as they passed me by, never acknowledging me. I then looked in front of me, and in the distance, someone stared back.
The silence woke Jasmine, her eyes fluttered open to gaze ahead of her. She shifted her body slightly, the coldness of the hardwood floor as well as the asche in her bones reminding her of her position on the ground. Jasmine then furrowed her eyebrows, wondering why she was still there. She sat up and looked around, noting that the sun was already out. Once Jasmine was fully coherent, she pushed herself to get up and search for her mother.
The first place Jasmine looked was her mother's office— and sure enough, that was where Edyth was sat." Mom?" Jasmine voiced, catching her mother's attention.
"Oh look you're awake! Why were you on the floor?" Edyth asked her daughter, looking back at her work. That was a valid point, why was she on the floor?" Uhm, I must've fainted or something," Jasmine told her, lacking knowledge of it as well.
"Well it's a good thing you're awake, I thought you were dead," Edythe replied, startling her daughter." And... You didn't think to check my pulse? Or bring me to my bedroom?" Jasmine asked in bewilderment.
Edyth looked up at Jasmine with an unimpressed look." Honey, I love you, but do I look capable of carrying you?" Jasmine thought for a minute," Fair enough."

It was quiet over the next week. The same routine: go to class, get stared at, go to class, get stared at. Jasmine grew aggravated with the stares and whispers and began to skip lunch just to get away from it all.
Today was no different than any other. So there Jasmine was, sitting in a mildly tall tree, reading a book. It was Jasmine's ideal pass time, she was away from the world and was in one of her own.
I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely—" May I join you?" A voice interrupted Jasmine's Book.
Confused, Jasmine looked down towards the grass below her and caught sight of Edward looking up at her with a smile ghosting his lips." Uhm... Why?" She called down to him, her eyebrows scrunched together.
"I like tree climbing too. Plus you have the best tree." He called up to her. Jasmine then looked around, and it was true, all the other trees were too flimsy to climb.
She sighed and averted her gaze back to the male." I uh... I guess so." In a matter of 15 seconds, Edward had hopped into the tree and was sitting in the branch next to her. By then, Jasmine had already turned back to her book.
"May I ask why you've decided to skip lunch?" He asked her, and she looked up at him." I don't like being stared at while I eat." She replied, looking back at her book." Why'd you skip?"
