Cameron jumps to his feet. "Who?" He demands.
"Rogues." My eyes widen in worry at the word. I try to stand up, but my legs are too weak and I desperately cling to Cameron's jeans, willing him not to leave my side. He quickly crouches next to me when he sees tears flowing out my eyes. I relax under his touch as he rubs small circles on my back.
"Taylor, there's no need to be scared. I'll protect you no matter what it takes." He says reassuringly. I shake my head and he seems confused.
"N-No! I know who the rogues are! I-I need to protect you!" I say and run a hand through his dirty blond hair. He catches my hand and holds it to his cheek.
"We can talk about this later, right now I need to get you back to the house." He stands up and I hear a strange noise. All of a sudden, his bones crack and change postion. I watch, fasinated as his body contorts into the shape of a wolf. I gasp and stare at the beautiful and strong wolf with fur the color of his human hair. He looks at me and I understand what he wants. I carefully climb on his back and see the guy who came with the warning in his wolf form. Before I know it, we take off and I'm amazed at how fast Cameron is. He sprints throught the forest, not even considering the original way we came. I enjoy the ride while I can, cause what's about to go down ain't gonna be that fun.
Eventually, we arrive at the back of the pack house and I jump down from the giant creature. I cringe a little at the noise he makes to shift back. Fixing my hair, I glance at Cameron, but immediately snap my head away, blushing like crazy. "What's the matter, babe?" He asks. Without looking, I use my hand to gesture at his naked body. He chuckles and I can sense the cocky look on his face. "Don't worry, you can look. This ?is? all yours after all!"
"Um, Cameron I think we have bigger things to worry about!" I say, face red as a tomato by now. Tears well up in my eyes again when the reality of the situation crashes down on me. ?He's ?here. I know it.
"Taylor" I turn to see Cameron standing in front of me, now wearing shorts. He looks down at me tenderly and lays his hands on my shoulders, slowly sliding them down as he speaks. "Listen to me. I need to keep you safe. I don't know how dangerous or stronge these rogues can be and my biggest priorities are to keep you and the pack safe." I nod and he touches his forehead to mine. "I'll be leading this battle up front with my father. My mother is going to take you in inside and you have to help keep the pack house in order, I don't want you to worry about me, okay?" I nod again, a more determined look on my face. "Good." He kisses my forehead and both cheeks, lips lingering on each spot.
"Okay, dear, let's get you inside." I recognize the woman as Jaime, Cameron's mom. She pulls Cameron off of me and takes my hand. She kisses his cheek and takes me inside. I watch through the window as multiple men and women change into their wolves and bolt into the woods.
I silently trudge into the kitchen to see Jaime baking something. "What are you making?" I ask and point to the ball of dough.
"Whenever something like this happens, I like to bake my famous peach pie! Everyone goes nuts for it!" She smiles and laughs as if remembering something funny. "Cameron and his father especially love it. They can each eat a whole pie by themselves!" She says and I laugh along with her.
"Do you mind if I help?" I ask hopefully.
"Of course!" She says. I mix another batch of dough and start kneading it. After there are around 20 pie shells, we move on to cutting the peaches. While we do this, Jaime reminisces about the pack and Cameron when he was a little kid. I can't help but chuckle at the fact that Cameron still keeps a teddy bear from his childhood up in his room.
We continue putting the peaches in the pies when I notice Jaime's mark. She stiffins when I trace my finger on the ancient symbol. "Oh! Sorry. It's just really beautiful..." I say embarrassed.
