It seemed like I had just drifted off to sleep when suddenly I awoke with a jolt. The moonlight is streaming in through the window, illuminating the whole room.
I slowly sit up and rub my eyes. It feels like I am still in a dream sort of state. Off into he distance, I hear the faint sound of a wolf howling. Slightly panicking, I peek over at Cameron. The wolf howls again, but Cameron is still fast asleep.
When the wolf howls for a third time, I can't held but slide out of bed and walk up to the window. It almost sounds like they are calling for me.
I glance up into the sky and the full moon immerses my eyes with it's purple light. Before I know it I'm opening the window and jumping out.
I land with a soft 'thud', and crouch down low into the grass. I begin to crawl, following the sound of the wolf's cries, and slowly change into my wolf form. I can't control my actions, but instead the wolf out there is controlling me.
After a few minutes, my crawl becomes a fast paced walk and I enter the woods. My footsteps barely make any noise as I scout the brush for the wolf who seeks me.
Due to the full moon, I have no problem seeing the path in front of me. For some reason I don't feel worried about the chance of Cameron waking up, but only desire to find whoever is calling me. I don't feel worried about not being able to control my movements, but only trust in my controller.
I move out of the brush and into an open field. This is where I feel like I should stop. This is where I'll meet them. I glance around, waiting patiently, when something suddenly slams into my side.
I wince as I tumble into the ground, and my eyes widen as I am snapped from my trance. It's another wolf trying to pin me down, but we are rolling around too much for me to get a clear look at their face.
I growl and nip at them, trying to throw them off of me, but it's no use. They're too strong.
They finally manage to pin me down on my back and hold me by my paws. They growl and I finally look up at them. I gasp, and then somebody tackles them off of me.
I only managed a peek at their face, but there's no denying it: it's Roxie.
I roll over and stand on all four feet. The wolf who tackled her is now wrestling with her in the bushes. I hear the snarling of the wolf and immediately know it's Cameron.
My breath quickens and I know I need to help him. Before I could even move, I hear a loud cry from Roxie and see her dart out of the bushes and into the deep forest. A second later Cameron comes crawling out in his human form. He has cuts and bruises all over.
I rush over and help him onto my back. He refuses the first time, but after a growl from me he climbs on. I sprint out of the woods, being careful not to bang anything into him, and up to the pack house. I howl for help and everyone comes rushing out.
Rob lifts Cameron off of my back and onto his. "Are you okay?" he asks me quickly. I nod, but nuzzle his legs to tell him to hurry. He understands and rushes Cameron inside.
Jordan runs to me and takes off her robe. I change back into my human form an wrap the soft garment around my naked body.
"What the hell happened?" she hisses.
I shake my head, still alarmed by tonight's events. "I-I don't know," I stutter. "Excuse me," I say as I slide past her and make my way to the infirmary.
There, the pack doctor is rushing around with medial supplies and a concentrated expression.
I notice now in the light that Cameron has a deep slash across his side. We do have the ability to heal faster then normal humans, but we can die just as fast with the same amount of blood loss.
