Midnight, a black kitten, rushed through the trees at a frightening speed. No, no, no. It cannot be! Midnight fought the urge to pounce, remembering what his father had said:
Do not trust anyone, Midnight; there are evil powers out in the world now, all of which could kill a lone kitten. Just keep to the plan... Now all he wanted to do was go back, a thing that was no longer physically possible.
He ran and ran, but it was only a whisker away. He spotted a hollow in a tree and rushed to its shelter. Two yards away from safety, Midnight leapt for the hollow. That's when it struck. Everything went dark and Midnight thought he was gone for sure when light entered his vision once more and he opened his eyes, becoming one with his old enemy. He was now a dragon.
