When Peter woke up, he found that Midnight was not there, but he could distinctly tell where he was.
He got dressed and went out for breakfast and found Lucinda patting Midnight. He put some toast in the toaster and sat down facing her.
"I have something to tell you", said Peter.
"Well, go on", she answered, obviously in a good mood.
"Midnight and I are somehow connected telepathically."
"No your not," she said, laughing, "and you tell me off for telling lies."
"It's not a lie!" Peter protested, "Come on Midnight, transform."
No, said Midnight, glaring at Peter.
     "Please?"
I can't or she will find out.
That's the whole point, Peter shot back.
     NO
Just do it for me and for Lucinda.
     Maybe, but not now.
     "Pretty please?" Asked Peter.
     Oh, ok.
There was a bright blue light and when the light disappeared, a black dragon had taken Midnight's place.
"Oh, come on. How come you get all the good stuff?" Lucinda complained.
"I don't", Peter answered, "I'm just as special as you."
     "How?"
"I don't know, but I am certain you will find out soon enough."
"And how long is 'soon enough'?"
"I don't know", He answered, "But, like all things, it will come in time."
"Why don't you ask your cat about the topic?" By then, Midnight had transformed back into a cat and began to rub against Peter's legs.
Tell her that, because of her relationship with a telepathic communicator, she will have most likely inherited the ability to control limited magical areas. Said Midnight.
     Really?
     Yes.
Ok. He recited Midnight's information to Lucinda and she looked at him doubtfully, but in a way that said she believed what was being said.
"But how am I supposed to control magic?"
"I don't know, but midnight might."
I do not, so she will now have to find out herself, though I think it is time to practice merging into one physical form.
     Are you absolutely sure?
     I am quite sure.
Peter told Lucinda what was to happen, and again, she looked doubtful.
"But what happens if it goes wrong?"
Yes, what happens if it goes wrong? Peter asked Midnight.
Then our form will become two once more and you will need lots of rest.
He told Lucinda this and her expression brightened.
"Ok, but make sure you will be all right."
"Ok. Midnight, I'm ready." A tingling sensation roared throughout his body and he felt his body being pulled towards Midnight's.
When it was completed they were one human form of Peter. Peter checked all his limbs to make sure they were working fine, and after a quick word with midnight, transformed into Midnight's form.
The sensation of being a cat was unsettling at first, but Peter found that Midnight could control the body as well as Peter.
After another check, they transformed into the dragon and attempted to roar. The sound was tremendous and Peter found that the sound no longer pained his ears.
Lucinda stared in amazement as the checks went by.
"Can you come back now Peter?" She asked. Peter and midnight transformed back into Peter's form and Lucinda glared at them.
     "I meant separate."
     "Ok", they said.
Peter prepared for the weird feeling and notified Midnight when he was ready.
     They attempted to separate.
