The following morning, it was as if nothing happened. Connie walked into school with a straight face. Emmi and Evangeline shared worried looks as he sat down with a very audible "thud." He continued to hold a dull look as he slowly grabbed his necessities. He then immediately began to work, ignoring everyone around him. And that's how the day went, every time someone approached him, he gave them a glare and they would leave. That was, until the end of the day.
Beginning to pack up, he yet again dropped his pencil. This normally happened but today, his pencil was caught. By none other than Evangeline.. Yes, now he at least calls her by her name.. Sorta. He hasn't actually talked to her yet, so...
Anyways, his pencil was brought up, but instead of it being placed on his desk, it continued up. It pressed against his nose and shoved his head up, only to find Evangeline.
"What do you want? Some more tutoring seeing as you seem to listen as much as you talk." He retorted, with a smug smirk gracing his lips. She appeared to have gasped and then her mouth was moving a mile a minute, though, no sound came out. "Aww, isn't that cute. You seem offended.. What, I can't hear you, can you speak louder?"
She raised her hand and instead of the expected slap, she gently placed her hand on his cheek. She slowly caressed it, getting Connie to loll his head over to one side. She smiled gently and lowered her head to his. Gently resting her forehead on his she kindly gazed into his eyes. Her eyes flashed in worry for a moment but then determination overpowered it. She pulled her head away from his and rested her hand on his cheeks.
He reached his hands up and gently grasped her hands, pulling them away from his face. "Are you done now?" She quickly nodded and scurried out of the room. Connie sighed and finished packing up. He looked at the clock and quickly rushed out of the school.

When he got home, the first thing he saw was his mom, who was smiling brightly and dressed in a nice red dress. When had she bought that? She walked over to Connie and gave him a big hug.
"Now Connie, we are having some guests coming for dinner so I need you to be dressed. Even your brother is dressed." She motioned over to the small four year old, giggling to himself as he begins to drool on his clothes. "Nonono, you can't drool on yourself, please be decent sweetie." She said to him before rushing over to stop the toddler.
Connie sighed and walked into the kitchen, only to see his father making dinner. His father was cooking a roast chicken that almost looked burnt. But like every night, it never burned. Connie still to this day has no idea how that works but he ignores it, semi-glad he hasn't died. Connie saw his father begin to turn around and he booked it, not wanting to talk.
He made his way up to his room, dodging any and everything in his way. When he entered his room, he decided to change. He reached into his closet and pulled out a grey cardigan. Going along with it were some simple black jeans and a black t-shirt. But as he was changing, he realized he forgot to ask a crucial question.
"Hey mom?" He called down as he was pulling his pants up. "Who is coming over?"
Just as he was pulling his shirt on over his head he heard his mother's response. "Sweetie, it's that new family, uh, oh what are their names..."
He let out a yelp as he tripped, shocked by the news. Well, this is not what he wanted.
