Connie woke up even grumpier than ever. The day before, it felt like Evangelion been avoiding him, and it left him feeling angry and sad at the same time. All he really wanted was to talk to her, but since she hadn't talked to him, it left him feeling empty and alone. So, he decided to revert back to before he grew "close" to the new girl. During his inner monologue, he didn't eat breakfast and just left the house.
On his way to school, his neighbors waved to him and tried to talk to him. He ignored them, and actually placed earbuds in. He blared his music and simply walked to school. When he arrived at the school, he shrugged and pointed to his earbuds whenever anyone talked to him. He had this dull look all across his body. His eyes were clouded in sadness and... something else no one could pick up.
He reached his classroom earlier than usual but he just sat there and set his stuff out. From the doorway of the room, he saw Emmi Roland, the new girl, and surprisingly Rikka Wong. He stared at the three blandly before returning to his own bubble. He zoned everyone out all period. All through lunch. All day. Then he found himself walking home. He skipped dinner, and went to bad. That was how it went for the next day. Then the next. Until Friday afternoon.
"Alright you!" He heard the strong voice of Rikka Wong announce loudly. The final bell had just rung and everyone had left. Except the three girls and Connie himself. Turning his head, he stared blankly at her.
"W-we wanted to ask if you would like to go camping with us this weekend.." Emmi asked shyly, her head slightly turned away from his view. That's when he noticed something... off. Emmi was tightly gripping Rikka Wong's hand, and now that he thought of it, they walked in holding hands too.
He made a 'tch' sound before turning away. He didn't need to deal with them now, he was just going to go home and spend his time doing what he enjoyed. Wait, what does he enjoy..?
During that moment of pondering, the new girl snuck up behind him and placed her hands across his eyes. He felt the hands bounce ever so slightly, so he knew she was giggling, and for some reason, he thought it was cute. All at once, his heart swelled and he felt guilt rise in him. But, like usual, he pushed those feeling down.
Instead, he wrapped his hands around Evangelion's wrists and turned around, effectively shocking her as he stood up. He held her wrists up for a moment and then leaned in. He gave her a tight hug, whispering a small "I'm sorry." She smiled and rubbed his back slowly. They stayed like that for a few moments before pulling apart.
All three girls stared intensely at Connie when he opened his eyes. When he did, he saw Emmi let out a sad sigh, Rikka Wong groan in annoyance, and Evangelion give a sad look with a hint of anger. Just as he was about to speak, the three turned around and huddled up. He heard whispers and some intense pencil scribbling. A few minutes later the three girls faced him and smiled widely.
"Alright, listen here." Rikka Wong started, with a hint of power in her voice. "You WILL join us on a camping trip this weekend. Eva is going to your house to help you and that's final."
"What about any of her things? Shouldn't she go pack her own stuff?" Connie quiered. He felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to see Evangelion holding a backpack filled with necessities.
"And my parents own a whole lot of the forest, so the entire thing is ours." Rikka continued.
"A-and I have the tents" Emmi, continued pointing to a wheelbarrow with two tents in it.
"Oh, okay then.." Connie was still confused but decided to go with it. He allowed Evangelion to follow him and the two headed to his home.
Somehow, by the time they reached his house, the two were holding hands, smiling softly. Connie left Evangelion to explain things to his mother and he went up to his room and packed a bag. When he returned to the living room, his mother was holding a giddy look while Evangelion was smiling widely. He stared at the two suspiciously but shrugged it off.
"Wait, young man!" He heard his mother call out to him. He slowly turned around and somehow, she was holding a two bags in her hands. "Here! For food, I already packed many sandwiches and I packed some waters for you and your friends!" She handed him the two bags and shoved him and Evangelion out the door. "Have a lovely weekend!"
Connie smiled weakly and waved goodbye. Then, he felt Evangelion take the bag of food in one hand and take his in her other. The two smiled at each other and made their way to the edge of the forest.
