Chapter 18

If the situation was not so traumatic it would have been funny. Ironically the tables were usually turned. Omkara was usually the one instilling fear in Gauri whilst she sought the Oberois out for protection.

It took a moment for Omkara to realise what was going on. He then gently pulled away from her iron grip. "Gauri," he said quietly, not wanting to alarm her in any way, "This is my family. They were quite eager to meet you. Especially after speaking to them." he saw his family looking confused at him.

He looked at his family hoped that they would be able to play along with him. "Gauri, this is Annika Bhabhi, you remember you spoke to her on the phone." She nodded shyly and smile recalling the conversation. He went around the room and introduced everyone.

They all seemed very emotional. "Gauri, I am going to leave you with Annika for a few a while. I need to talk to the family. Okay." I will be right back he said, cupping her cheeks.

She looked up at him apprehensively and then turned to Annika. She did not want to be a burden to him. He had already done so much for her.

"Okay Omkaraji." She said. "I will be fine." She said. Omkara squeezed her hand. "You will be fine."

He ushered his family out of the room.

Gauri could not believe how good Omkara had been. She never expected him to be kind to her. She recalled there forced wedding. She had no expectations from him. She thought he was going to treat her as he did prior to the wedding but he was being nice, which shocked her.

Omkara followed his family out of the room. As usual the three brothers fell into step with each other. "What is going on?" Shivaay asked, concerned.

"I don't know. But it seems as though Gauri is suffering from some type of memory loss. I don't want to alarm her. But before we proceed I need to speak to her doctor. I would not want to do anything to jeopardise her condition."

The nurse on the ward indicated that the doctor on duty was busy with a patient and would be available in twenty minutes. Which was ample time for Omkara to grab a quick shower and change. As the Oberoi's were major benefactors of the hospital, the doctor's lounge was made available to him.

The doctor was already waiting for him when he arrived at the doctor's rooms. He took seat in front of the doctor, and exchanged pleasantries.

"Doctor, it would seem that Gauri is suffering from some type of memory loss." He said.

"I am actually on my way to examine her now. I am surprised as this is not a usual occurrence with poison victims." The Doctor said.

"I am also awaiting a toxicology report. Mr Oberoi I have to ask you, is it possible that Gauri attempted suicide." the Doctor asked.

Omkara looked guiltily at the doctor, only to aware that it was not just a possibility but was a fact. He could not lie.

"I believe that it is possible Doctor," he said.

"Is there a psychological issue that we may be dealing with here?" the Doctor asked.

He was embarrassed. He had been there, where suicide had seemed like the only escape. But he was also aware that Gauri's attempts had more to do with him.

"Doctor, our marriage has not been the happiest. We were married in a hurry and we have not yet adjusted to things. We did have an argument yesterday morning that could have led to this. I can tell you this though, Gauri has become a very important part of my life. I will do anything that is necessary for her to be well again." Omkara said.
