I must be seeing things. I don’t even know this dude! I met him in a club. And he… fixed my most prized possession?!
After a moment of that…whatever the hell it was, he snapped out of it and smiled. ”So, would you and your friends like to come to the restaurant Andre’s with me? I was supposed to go with my parents and sister, but their flight from Florida got canceled.”
“I-I-uh-um….of course!” I stammered. “We’d be glad to come. S-so what time?” He gives me a grin.”Seven-thirty. I’ll pick you up. Where do you live?”I give him the address and say goodbye. “Wear something… semi-formal,” is his parting word.”It’s a date,” is mine.
I practically run home, my foot-long and iced tea churning in my stomach. I make it to the kitchen sink before I puke. I slide down the wall of the countertop.
What the hell is happening to me?

“What!”Merlyn practically shrieks. Its four ‘o’clock, and she just got home from a date with Dru.”I only have three hours?!”
I try to soothe her by telling her it was a semi-formal occasion. It helped, but not by much. She made me shower while she picked out the clothes.
By seven, we were showered, dried, styled, painted, and dressed. I wore a royal blue dress with a plunging neckline, a floaty skirt, and a sapphire necklace. My dad’s necklace had a chain long enough to drop between my breasts. Merlyn wore a light pink strapless dress with a diamond hair clip shaped like a dogwood flower. An opal sat in the center, with tinny pink diamonds lining the petals
Dru came at ten till, which really set Merlyn on edge. I swear, I think she is more worried about my date than I am! But it was really funny to see her reaction to the top hat Dru was wearing. I swear, he looked like Brandon from Panic! At The Disco. But I’ll bet my reaction was hilarity itself when a black stretch limo pulled up at exactly 7:30.
The doorbell rang. I threw the door open to see Jason standing there, looking absolutely handsome. I tingled from my head to my toes. He gallantly takes my hand and leads me down the steps, complimenting me on everything. Of course, everything but Jace’s bracelet and dad’s necklace is Merlyn’s. Dru leads her down the stairs as well, and the driver waits until Jason gives the okay to start driving. Jason takes my hand. I look up and smile at him. I swear, I know him from before. It’s been nagging at me all day. I have seen this boy before the club, but where?

We arrive at the restaurant, gathering stares from the people waiting in a looooong line outside the front doors. Jason gives his surname to the centre serveur, so we get to skip the line. We are seated at a secluded booth. The waitress bats her eyes at Dru, until Merlyn gets jealous and starts making out with him. The waitress rolls her eyes and takes our drink orders. Merlyn stops her game of tonsil-hockey when I hit her with my balled up napkin. Dru looked bemused but slightly pleased.
The waitress comes back and flutters her lashes at Jason this time. I’m kinda jealous myself, but then Jason takes my hand and kisses it. I smile at him and give the girl my Yeah, I know, right? look. After we place our orders, Merlyn gets a phone call. She flushes bright red as Flo Rida’s Sugar went off. She hurried to the bathroom to answer it. I looked at Dru and Jason and giggled while they chuckled. However, Merlyn took so long, our food was already there. I excused myself and went to check on her. As I neared the bathroom, however, I felt something. It reminded me of camping, oddly enough, and it smelled of rain. The feeling was urgent, as if something were wrong. I took off my heels and ran the rest of the way to the powder room. I pushed open the door to see Merlyn lying, lifeless, on the floor. She wasn’t breathing. I gasped. I dialed Jason’s phone and put it on speaker. “Hey, what’s up?” he asked, concerned.
“Get help!” I screamed. I was already starting CPR by the time he had confirmed and hung up. A minute later, the boys burst through the door, followed by the manager and two employees. Dru looked heartbroken. He dropped to his knees, staring at Merlyn as I tried to get her to breathe. A few minutes go by; I’m not sure how many. The ambulance gets here. Dru gets in the front and they drive away.
I’m standing outside, with Jason beside me, watching the ambulance drive away. My knees give out and I fall. Jason catches me before I hit the ground. I turn into him and begin to cry.
Oh, Merlyn… Please be alright…
