I blinked multiple times trying to process exactly what she had just said, when it finally clicked I was brought back to reality.
Dr. Thomas: The reason you've been feeling so bad is because you're exactly 4 months and that's a long time to be without prenatal vitamins that benefit the baby. So I'm going to go ahead and get you started on those and if you'd like we can check on the baby now.
Maia: Can I schedule another appointment for that?
Dr. Thomas: Of course! Do you know who the father is?
Maia: Yes ma'am
Dr. Thomas: Is he present?
Maia: I don't know yet...
Leaving the doctor's office I was beyond shook, and the first person I told was Beverly. She sighed covering her head with her hands.
Beverly: Well if you weren't in it deep now, then there is definitely no going back now. Have your parents ever met Austin?
Maia: Once or twice but Catherine was there so they didn't think much of him...we're not even together. I'm such an idiot
Beverly: You've got to tell him Maia....
Maia: I know and I will...I just have to process everything first.
3 WEEKS LATER
I'd ran from it long enough and I was actually somewhat at peace with it now, and I'd also been ignoring Austin these past 3 weeks. I had a small bump now so I definitely figured it was about time to tell him. I called him over to my house and he sat down in front of me with a mix of emotions written on his face.
Austin: I've been worried about you, you haven't answered my calls and you barely have been texting me back.
Maia: I know I just needed some space
Austin: What's wrong?
Maia: Austin...when I went to the doctor. The reason I'd been feeling so sick was because I was 4 months pregnant and I hadn't been taking prenatal vitamins.
Austin: I'm sorry what?
Maia: I'm 4 months and 3 weeks pregnant as of today.
Austin: And it's mine...
I shot him a look and he realized what he said automatically correcting the sentence, he's the only person I've been sleeping with for the past 2 years.
Austin: Sorry I shouldn't have asked that question. Just, what're we going to do?
Maia: Glad you asked. It's time Austin
Austin: Time for what?
Maia: We have to tell Catherine about us, especially if you're going to be in the child's life. As he/she gets older they may start looking more and more like you so we shouldn't let it get to that point. Eventually after we tell Catherine we might as well tell both of our fan bases, and we deal with the hate as it comes and goes but we can't keep hiding.
Austin: I know...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Maia: Austin I need to know...are you going to stay with me or Catherine if she'll have you
Austin: Maia...you deserve stability and for me to pretend that my feelings for you aren't stronger than my feelings for Catherine...I'd be an idiot. We just have to figure things out...together.
He reached over grabbing my hand and I gave him a slight smile, we were going to get through this one way or another.
