he told me
| four |He had started a new job which had him come home around late evening, working after his day classes. I thought it would be a nice gesture to cook him his favorite meal, so I had went to the supermarket, bought the ingredients, and cooked for him. When he came home he was happy that I was being thoughtful, but it changed quickly when he tasted the food. He said it was a disaster and that I was stupid for messing up a simple recipe.
In the midst of his screaming, I had asked him to calm down. He shoved me into the kitchen counter which hurt my side. Trying to defend myself I pushed him back. He slapped me across my face and told me to clean the mess I created. I thought it was my fault; I had messed up something simple and deserved to be hit for my mistake. I cried the entire time I cleaned the kitchen. Later that night, he pulled me into the bed with him and told me he was sorry and it was an accident, he would never do it again.
After the first incident, I had tried to do better with my cooking and helping around the house. When I did something and it wasn't to his liking, the continuous insults were being thrown at my face along with several pushes and shoves into furniture which created bruises onto my skin. I told him to stop but he wouldn't; it only made him angrier. He punched me in the back of my head one afternoon and left my to tend to the bumps myself. He told he was sorry and he'll change.
I believed him.
