4. Warm hugs

I walk towards the livingroom so I can get to the kitchen. I peeked to see where, and what my dad was doing. All I see is a man on the couch with a drink in his hand slouching.
He's fast asleep on the couch.
I look back at Emilio. "Well just our luck. He had a drink making him fall asleep on the couch." I sighed. "Well at least we can eat breakfast and get to school with energy ya know?"Emilio elbowed me on the side of my arm. I then faked laugh so we can just get moving.

We headed to the kitchen and I see mom sitting down with her head in her hands.
"Good morning mama!, wha- what happened? Are you ok?" I walked to her and giving her a hug. I looked at Emilio. I saw his smile just flip around instantly.
Mom took her head out of her hands and looked at us. Her eyes were so puffy and red.

I held in my cry in my throat, and stood there comforting her. Emilio walked around the table so he's sitting in front of her. "Mama, please what's wrong?

"Nothing, nothings wrong." She wiped her eyes and got up. "Mama please stop lying. I know your not ok. Please tell us what is wrong!" I stood up walking towards her and turned her around.

"It's your father. That's what." She said as a tear rolled down her eye. "Now please get ready and eat cause your gonna miss your bus and-" Emilio didn't let her finish " I don't care about school! I care about you. I wanna make sure everything is ok with you. We love you mama." Emilio said as he held in his tears. Our mom just stood there. She let out a cry and came towards us and wrapped her arms around us.

"I love you boys. You Guys are amazing. You are a very good young man. Please stay this way and not turn out like your father." "Ha no worry's mama, We will never want to be like him." Me and Emilio kissed our mother's cheek and started to put on our shoes.

We grabbed our bags for school so we can head out to the bus stop. We waved our hands and said good bye to our mother and closed the door.

We started walking to the bus stop and Emilio and I just had a little chat. " Emilio, what If dad does anything to mama?" Emilio gave me a looked. "if he puts hands on our mother we will call the cops and I don't care what happens next." "But what if he doesn't get caught? What if he just runs away?" " Ivan stop being stupid. Do you really think he can run? Ha! He can't even stay awake for 5mins!" We both started laughing.

We waited for the bus to come so we can get to school. We saw a white flashing light coming near us. That's how we know the bus it about to pull up. We walked up to the curb so we can get onto the bus.
Me and Emilio always sit way in the back. As I walked on to the bus I put in a fake smile. Making myself look good.

I walk down the aisle of the bus and pulled myself forward to the back faster.
Everyone seems to be starring at me. I thought there's something on me, cause the way they looked at me seemed really weird.

I made it to the back of the bus and sat right across of Emilio.
"Yo Emilio, why was everyone starring? They seem so creepy!" Emilio started to laugh. I got really confused and I sat back.
"You know why? It's cause you got lipstick on yo cheek!" Emilio started to laugh even harder. I got so embarrassed and wiped
It off my face.

Then I thought about mother. Cause that lipstick stain was from mom. Everyone is gonna laugh about that but they will never know the reason why it was there.
