*Kinda sorta edited😭*
You can ignore this if you're a past reader, but I changed a detail that I just noticed I wrote that kinda affects the rest of the story so this update isn't as important. New Readers can disregard this message entirely and continue on.

"Cleo, I'm so sorry. You know I didn't mean to."

Cleo ignored her aunt when she was speaking. She was tired of hearing the same thing every time, cleaning up whatever mess Zoë left behind. She was busy packing an extra bag after what happened with Cory last night.

"Mr. Matthews, I know she tries and tries. I tried to get her to go to rehab but she felt like I was saying something was wrong with her. You know what my life was like, I just can't do it. She forgets everything important when she drinks. I'm grateful for the roof over my head, but I hate cleaning up her mess. Good job or not, she DOES need help."

Cory watched the teary-eyed girl with sad eyes. They were parked in front of her house and she was telling him about her past life.

Cory sighed and chose his next words carefully.

"Has she ever... did anything while she was drinking, Cleo?"

Cleo's body stopped shaking and she looked straight ahead. All her thoughts cleared her head when she heard the question. She had to really think about the question.

"Like my parents? Emotionally or physically?"

"All of the above if necessary. Even if it's one of them, it's bad."

"Yes."

Cory offered his home to her for a few nights or until she was ready to go home. She would stay in the spare room next to Riley's, who was ecstatic hearing Cleo would be living with them.

"Zoë, I just can't do it anymore. I stayed with you, I tolerated you, I cleaned up your messes, I made sure you didn't lose your job, I let you say what you wanted to me, I covered for you, I cook for you, I do everything for you. What about me? When have you ever just stopped and asked me how do I feel about everything?"

Zoë didn't say a word, just stood there with a hopeless look on her face. Cleo slumped her shoulders and shook her head at her. "That's what I thought. I'm gonna get a job, Zoë, and I'm going to stay with the Matthews for a few days."
