A/N: a poem I wrote for my creative writing class!

Calamity comes in the dead of night.
It courses through your veins and
Makes your heart hammer.
It comes from all sides like walls,
Closing you in.
Isolating you.
Calamity takes away your voice and
Replaces it with choking
Your throat is swollen you cannot breathe
Hands shake, jaws clench,
Everything is so loud and yet—
It is silent.
Its teeth are jagged and
Its grip is an iron clasp.
It breathes black smoke that coalesces around you
So thick you fear you'll go blind.
You can feel its eyes,
Its many, many eyes,
Watching you
Wide with panic and with fear and
With malice it will instill these feelings,
Put a bird in your rib cage and s n a r l
Insecurities where it looms in the gloom around you.
There is no rhyme or reason but to make you
Quake under the weight of its
Claws on your chest.
