I ran to catch up with Connor. It is my eighth birthday and I want to make sure he's invited to my party this afternoon. I run as fast as I can out of my elementary school. My book bag hitting me in the back and my long red-brown hair whipping in the wind. I watch as he crosses the busy highway. He looks back once and screams back at me, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Your never be special! Im never gonna love you so stop trying so hard!"
Tears prick my eyes as I holler in reply. "Im never gonna give up because I love you! I love you Conner Holcumb Mavis! You hear me! I-" He doesn't respond as he jogs past the street and somehow manages to pass all the busy cars without getting run over.
My eyes suddenly swell up with tears and I begin to cry. My friend Pearl puts her hand on my shoulder, taking deep breaths. "Man, your-fast. It's okay. Im sure he's-whoo, sorry, just..."
I cry out, "No!" I shrug her off of me then take off, my invitation meant for Connor held tightly in my grip. I hear Pearl yelling my name but I ignore her. I have to get this to him whether he wants it or not, I think stubbornly.
Foolishly I don't bother looking both ways as I bolt as fast as I can across the highway. And as I do I swear I hear the two mean girls: Robin and Harley whispering to each other a few feet away. I look back but only long enough to catch a quick glimse of their bright pink oufits and matching blond hair. I forget about them and focus ahead.
I will make it, I think. Just as I reach the curb of the road where the grass begins I hear a loud "HONK!" But before I can swerve my head in time to see what's happening a car hits me and my world blurs then turns to a darkness like death.Tell me in the comments who your favorite character is so far!
