I think it's safe to say I have no friends. I do have a teacher though. Not a school teacher, but a wise old man teacher. Actually, scratch that. Mr.Adams would kick my ass if he heard that. And that is exactly what he does. He teaches me self-defence.
Carrying my bag full of stolen food, I made my way to his gym.
He started teaching me when he found me running from a couple of girls. I managed to really piss them off. Just me doing what I do best. My clumsy ass tripped and fell right in front of his door. He got the older kids to back off. Call it a Karate Kid moment if you like.
I never actually got to go to Japan or China, and I defenitely wasn't going to fight other kids using my pure skill. Only way I normally win is when I get mad. I get an abnormally large adrenaline boost. Last kid I fought a couple of years ago, got a broken wrist. So yeah. I learned to keep it under control, most of the time. So I run instead of fight. It's pathetic I know.
Arriving at his rusty old backgate I made my way in. Mr.Adams might understand me ditching school, but he has to make sure I don't blow my cover.
Ethan greeted me at the backdoor. " Hey Em!" He grinned. Ethan was adorable. He was the sweetest little boy I ever met. Mr. Adams 'favorite' grandson. Technically his only grandson but why ruin his ego? " Aren't you supposed to be in school?" I asked.
He just shrugged. " Grandpa told me you might show up, so I wanted to see you." He looked at me apologetically.
" That's all right, I don't care much for school either. Want an apple?" Nodding quickly he gave me a hug then retrieved the apple."Tell me another story Em." Ethan asked. Playing dumb I asked "What kind of story?" "You know! Neverland stories!" He pouted. "Maybe I need a reminder. My mind seems to have gone blank!" I teased. " Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and Lost Boys!" He exclaimed. " Hmmm, I suppose it would be alright. I have another hour of work before my lesson." Giggling, he snatched two brooms and handed me one.
" One day as the Lost Boys were hunting they encountered the beautiful Tiger Lily tied up and gagged by the nefarious Captian Hook!" I said putting the broom over my shoulder and marching around the empty room. "Can I be Captain Hook?" Ethan asked. Cocking my head at him I asked, "Why would you want to be him? He's evil." Ethan just shrugged and mumbled something about being misunderstood. Pointing my broom at Ethan I said" You shall never take the princess away from her people, you nasty pirate!" Giggling he pointed his at me and said " Just try and stop me boy!"Two hours later, I left the gym tired and bruised. Only three, so I actually did pretty good today. Mr.Adams might be in his forties but damn that dude can kick some ass.
Checking my watch, I hurried up. I don't have any money to take the bus so I walk ( or run) pretty much anywhere. My father doesn't care if I leave after dinner as long as I'm there to make dinner. I wonder if he remembered my birthday.
