"Emma? Why are you leaving me? Don't you still love me? Did I move too fast? Emma? Please call me." I have listened to the same voicemail from my now Ex-boyfriend Erik 15 times today alone. Why? I cant answer that. I just know that I have to get out of there. I convinced Mom to move school districts. Maybe there I will find answers to the questions I have been looking for. I pick up my phone and call Chrisy.We have been bestfriends since the first grade. Maybe she will understand why I have to leave.
"Emma? Whats going on? Everyone says you're leaving... "
"Chrisy... I have to go. I don't belong here anymore. Please understand..."
" You know I will if you just tell me what's going on."
"My dad is making it impossible to stay and the teachers here are failing me for no reason. My life is falling apart and I need to find somewhere I can fit in again."
"You belong with me Emma... You always have and always will..."
"Thanks Chrisy. Ill only be a few miles down the road so i can still come over all the time."
"You just do what you have to Emma. "
"Thanks for understanding."
I hang up the phone and settle in for the night. Before I close my eyes there is a soft tap on my bedroom door. Its my mom coming to say goodnight. I close my eyes and pretend to be asleep as she comes in and kisses my forehead. I hear a soft click as she closes my door and I drift off into a peaceful, dreamless, sleep.
