- April -

"Oh, that? I was just playing with you. Hehe, you believed me?"

Who... who is this person? Kai is a stranger now. He's now a self-centred, dense, stereotypical popular kid. I just don't believe it. I don't want to believe it.

Shouldn't I be feeling relieved that I was relieved of my public humiliation in front of everyone? Instead, I don't feel anything.

I zone out for a while, lost in thought. I wake up to the sound of him laughing. It stings me like an angry wasp. I don't laugh back.

Forget it. I'm glad I didn't bother getting to know him back then.

As I walk back into class with him, Charli's the first to ask.

"April? He-llooo? What did Kai do?"

I look back at him standing in the doorway. He's watching me, his expression pained, eyes glazed over. What on earth is going on with him? My anger fades slowly. I watch him recover himself, put on a bright grin and look over to Zach and Ryan. How can I hate someone that looks as helpless as him?

Charli's still staring at me, waiting for an answer. I gaze back at her and smile wanly.

"I don't know either, Charli."
