"Come on I want to see the battle.",Oka yelled as she continued to run to the arena as me and Raven we're doing our best to keep up but we never seemed to get past being 10 feet behind her. When we finally caught up she was already to destructed watching to notice us next to her.I looked in the arena to see the battle was between lion and a leopard."He has no chance against the lion, the lions have never lost a fight before.",Oka was mumbling to herself, and she had a point but still I mentally rooting for the leopard to win.

As the battle commenced the two in the arena created dust clouds preventing us from watching the fight but you could tell it was continuing from the growls and hisses coming from the arena. Then they just stopped,I watched wondering the outcome then the leopard appeared.Blood cover his body and you could see scratch and bite wounds littered his body.

He took one step then collapsed on to the dust floor as the lion appeared from the dust placing his paw on his opponents head claiming victory."I knew it!",Oka was ranting about how she knew this was going to happen as I could Raven shaking and I looked to see his golden yellow eyes were filled with terror. He couldn't take his eyes of if the leopard who was almost half dead.

I grabbed him by the scruff leading him away from the scene leaving Oka to continue watching the rest of the battles.I lead him through the crowded streets as adults and kids tried watching the battles. He looked over to see two kittens play fighting re-enacting the battle that just took place. He looked away and started to mumble something, which I couldn't make out.We finally made it back to his den as I sat him down his body still shaking."Why do we have to fight....why do we have to spill the blood of our friends.",I looked over to him his eyes still filled with fear."I don't want to die Jay!",I could see tears forming in his eyes.

What do I say to him this was all we've ever known. And we were only one year away from being old enough to fight."I don't want to be banished.",he was just mumbling to himself now and I curled up next to him trying to confert him to the best of my ability."Don't worry okay me you and Oka won't die we're going to win and be able to stay here forever,I promise.",he looked up at me then looked down at his paws, his body had finally stopped shaking.

I stood up shaking the dirt from my fur "I'm going to get us some food okay.",he nodded then I left the den.The line for food wasn't bad most likely from people watching the fight.I was lost in thought thing about what Raven said."Jay!",I snapped out of my trance and jumped in fright to see Oka standing next to me laughing.

"Don't do that!",I yelled at her "Sorry but I couldn't pass up that opportunity.",she smiled then walked up next to me as we waited in line together."So how did the fights go.","Well after you and Raven left there was only one fight left resulting in Lola winning against another dog.",that's not surprising Lola was pretty strong for a german shepard."And the banishments","There're taking place tomorrow.",we made it to the front of the line grabbing some meat, then heading back to Raven's den. When we made it I dropped the meat infront of Raven as me and Oka sat next to him eating our pieces. We were all quiet not knowing what to talk about.

"Well well we'll,if isn't the three idiots.",I looked up to see the light gray fur of Raven's brother standing in the den doorway."To much of a coward to watch the fights huh Raven.",Raven just looked down avoiding eye contact with his brother, and I don't blame him."Weakling, the only one here who isnt a coward is Oka.",he grinned at Oka who just gave him a death glare then continued to eat,and this is one of the reasons she's my friend.

Balto just looked away defeated then walked to his bed and layed down.I licked the remaining blood from my mussel and then stood up saying by to Raven and Oka before leaving to go to my den.The next day the losers were banished to the wasteland and for some reason I couldn't take my eyes of the leopard I watched lose. His wounds were bandages but blood was still soaked on them but I saw no fear in his eyes, either he was prepared to be banished or he was good at hiding his fear.I watched as he was the first to step out into the waste land.I have to admit I admired him and his bravery but deep down I knew he wasn't going to survive,I mean.......

........no one has.
