Looking out the window
Across the prairies
Sights as far as the eye can see
A beauty to behold
Yet her heart aches
Aches for the man she calls fiancé
For she is branching to college
While he stays behind
A year apart seems impossible
A long year away from the one she loves most
Her heart aches for those she leaves behind
She knows she will return
But that doesn't stop the hurt
"Keep busy" they say
"It'll fly by" they say
Yet those words don't seem to ease the ache inside
All she wants is to turn the vehicle around
To run back into her loves embrace
Only a few minutes apart
But yet the further she travels
The bigger the ache grows
The once beautiful prairie views turns ugly
Warped by tears of sadness
But she is reminded by an owl
That they will be together again
A year is not forever
Only a time frame of imminent end
That warms her heart
And the prairies return to their beautiful sights
No longer warped by tears
But warmed by her smile
A smile that is wrapped in memories of time spent with her love
Of which she clings tightly
Refusing to let go
For a year isn't permanent, just temporary
and her tears turn into smiles
Awaiting the day they are reunited
