The air was cool when I first woke up. A light breeze circulated around the room and natural sunlight filled in all the cracks. I didn't even have to open my eyes to recognize that it was first thing in the morning.

At this point, I was not fully awake. The inner workings of my mind had just begun to whirr. My thoughts and consciousness slowly filtered in. I felt like I had just dreamed, but I had no recollection of what it was about.

I hadn't slept so soundly in years. My back felt like new and all of my muscles were relaxed and melting into their soft pillowy encasement. I just wanted to lay my head back and let it become one with the fabric.

But why couldn't I?

My eyelids fluttered open to see a HUGE man sitting over me, the back of my hand resting in his massive palm, as he inspects my face.

I was fully awake by then. And so were my vocal cords.

Fuck.

I screeched. Not just like an "oh wow you surprised me" screech. More like a "who the frickity frack are you?"  screech. Scared by the banshee in his lap, he let go and fell backward. I scuttled away from the giant of a man and curled up, knees to my chest, in the corner as far away as I could.

My entire body was shaking. My fists were clenched and my heels were pushed up by my butt. I plastered my torso up against the wall to keep my important organs, like my heart, as far away from him as possible.

How could I have not noticed? I'm definitely not in my room and definitely not in my house. The air that I was enjoying earlier smells like campground air. Like pine trees. I live in the city, not in freaking Oregon.

"Mate?? Mate?? Are you okay?" The shock wore off. He started to fumble his way off the bed and move over to me. He sounded distressed, and a bit excited. But I guess that's expected from a kidnapper who's stolen goods were plastered against the furthest wall.

My breathing speed increased as he swiftly glided over and fell to his knees in front of me like he was trying to herd a stray cat. Minutes of silence passed.

"Back away."

"Sh sh sh. It's okay. Relax angel."

"Back AWAY. I will scream." He was in a daze. Each time I said back away he just inched his hand closer, all fingers extend reaching out towards my face. I winced back, pushing my head against the wall as hard as I could, and raising my shoulders.

"Angel..." he looked so dejected when he realized I was trying to get away from him. He dropped his hand and it landed on my knee. I yelped and skittered away from him.

"Angel I'm not here to hurt you. You can relax."

"You KIDNAPPED me. How should I k-know you are safe?" I cursed my voice for cracking. He faltered and looked to the side

"I-I-I'm... I'm not a dangerous man. I saved you from that skinny bast-"

"That 'skinny bastard' didn't drug me!" He winced. Yeah, that's right. Feel the guilt.

"Angel, please come here. Come to me. I'll explain, I promise"

"Fuck no." His expression darkened and he pulled me roughly into his chest, careful not to hurt me. I screamed and writhed in his tight hold as he pressed my face into his chest.

"Angel... Angel... Angel please... please... Angel, please relax... lovely.. please" he murmured as he stroked my hair. I screeched and pushed back on his stone arms. He started to sing a soft song

"You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy

When skies are grey

You'll never know dear

How much... I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away." I screamed harder and desperately tried to free myself from his grasp. At this point, I didn't care if I was going to make him mad. I just wanted to free myself from his tight grasp. My lungs started to choke up and I was coughing as I fought. But, I didn't let that stop me.

"Darling, just relax... you're gonna hurt yourself." That's when the tears started.

I could feel them soaking through his shirt. I sobbed quietly, finally giving up. I had nothing left in me. He seemed startled by my tears and quickly pulled away.

"No... no... No! What? Why are you crying??" He seemed so distressed. I was so surprised by his reaction I couldn't even bring myself to pull away, I just stared into his dark eyes. He started to breathe rapidly

"It's not supposed to happen like this. You're supposed to love me. What... What's wrong... What's wrong??" Tears ran faster down my face. I was all choked up. His eyebrows clenched up, and his hands relaxed so I could scurry off to the corner. We held a staring contest for a minute before he cursed and stomped out the door, leaving me in dead empty silence once again.
