"I bet he's really nerdy and has braces!"

"Fingers crossed he's super perfect like those guys in all the chick flicks!"

"You guys are so stupid."

The new kid. The new Australian kid. That's all anyone's been talking about for the past two weeks. We've gotten new kids plenty of times before and it's always the same thing. They talk about them for weeks, they show up, they're always some average kid from a town a few hours away, and then a week later everyone seems to forget they're even new here. That's why I found absolutely no interest in the topic. My friends, however...

"Wait why do you think he's moving here from Australia?"I closed my locker and turned to walk to first period.

"Maybe his parents were brutally murdered and just before the murderer could slash his throat he got away. Maybe they never found the murderer so he's in the witness protection program or whatever!"

"Oh good God.." I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Ryleigh's always has these ridiculous ideas. Well I guess we all do that. But Ryleigh was notorious for it. We always come up with these crazy scenarios and ideas, but Ryleigh's always tops them all.

"What?" She shrugged her shoulders and continued the conversation with Jo.

Jo's actual name was Josephine but Ryleigh and I decided it was too serious for our liking so we call her Jo. We figured no one with the name Josephine could cause shenanigans. It's really a stupid reason to call her Jo but we don't really care and it's kind of grown on her so.

We continued to stroll down the hallway until I reached my first hour class.

"See ya."

"Bye!"

I had all my morning classes alone so I usually didn't see my friends until lunch. I went to my usual seat and sat down. Algebra was my first class of the day. Don't ask me how that's legal because I really don't know.

*rinnggggg*

"Good morning, it's time for the announcements..."

"Alright everyone pull out last night's homework assignment. What was it pg 478, one through nine or something like that. Oh hello, you must be Luke?"

I looked up, and a boy with legs as long as a giraffe's and jeans tighter than mine stood in the doorway of the classroom.

"Yep." the boy nodded, obviously not wanting to make any sort of small talk.

"I'm Mr. Johnson. Go ahead, take a seat. It looks like there's an empty seat right there by Cora if you'd like." He motioned to a desk on my right. I gave a polite smile as he walked towards me but instead of sitting down, he continued to walk down the aisle and to the very back and sat in the empty desk in the corner. He sat down and noticed me looking at him. He simply shrugged and mouthed the word 'what' then continued to look straight ahead at the board. I mean I know it sucks being the new kid, but that was just rude. It was 5 minutes into the class and I could already tell I wasn't going to like this kid.

"Hey."

"Hey!"

"Hola!"

Ryleigh and Jo greeted me as I approached our usual lunch table before they soon went back to the conversation they were having. I didn't know what they were talking about and I didn't really are enough to try and pay attention.

It was usually just us three that sat at our lunch table. Even though we went to a smaller school, we definitely had our cliques. There were about five different prominent cliques; the nerds, the jocks, the girls that were popular for whatever reason that I still haven't quite figured out, the outcasts, and the punks. Then there was Ryleigh, Jo, and I. We weren't really a part of any of the cliques we just sort of talked to anyone who talked to us none of us really liked the idea of "labeling".
