The small kit poked her head out from the corned and smiled. "Betcha can't catch me!" She challenged. "Oh yeah?" the tom standing in the clearing fired back. "Well i bet i can." He said sternly and pelted after the small kit. His eyes focused on her pelt searching for any new markings. This kit was strange, nearly every morning she would wake up looking almost like an entirely different cat. Today she had a silver patch near the tip of her tail. The tom was getting exhausted, she sure was fast for a city cat. You would almost think she was a forest cat if you didn't know her. She glanced back over her shoulder and saw he was pacing behind. She came to a halt and turned to face him. Amusement shone in her bright green eyes. "What full grown cat can't run any faster than a kit!" She teased. He purred. He knew one day she would grow up to be the finest cat these streets had ever seen. "Blank?" She asked tilting her head. "Why don't my mom and dad look after me?" he winced, what could he say to her? Could he ever lie to her even if it was to protect her. "I'll tell you when we get back to base." He mewed taking a deep breath he let all of the things he could say flow through his mind he padded onward towards base. As he reached the base a small kit jumped out and bit down on his tail. "Enough!" An angry mew sounded from inside the den and he whirled around to see crystal. She rushed over and grabbed her kit plopping him down on one of their soft grass beds. "I'm very sorry about the trouble he's caused." She mewed sounding a bit embarrassed to have such misbehaving kits. "No it's fine!" He yowled over his shoulder as he padded behind one of the nests. "Look i... Your parents... Your parents knew that there was something- well nothing's wrong with you no! But... you have a ... a disease." as he finished what he was saying he saw greif overcome her. "Look rose! I still love you the way you a-" He was cut off. "No you don't! You just want me here so later you'll have the luxury of prey for every day of the week! Maybe you should just move in with some twolegs and become a stupid fat lazy kittypet you dirtbag!" She spat. His heart sank and he began to wonder. Is that really true? Would his group be better off without him? For a moment he thought it was true but then he snapped back. "No i do love you rose! I would risk my life for you." He hoped with all his heart this would work. "Prove it." she said simply. "Wha- How?" He asked a sense of panic in his mew. "How do you think you can?" She asked. "If you're thinking i'd jump off a building just to prove something that's true you're wrong." He teased. Rose sighed "I guess that's fair but i won't believe you until you prove it." she padded away into the haystack curling up in a grass nest. Blank looked up at the sky surprised to find a half moon. "Rose!" He called for her again. Rose groaned and got up. "What now?" She mumbled. "It's the gathering of the city cats tonight and we were the cats chosen to go!" He puffed his chest out with pride. As the padded toward the clocktower he heard a yelp from behind him. He whirls around to see rose being picked up by a twoleg "Rose! Play dead!" He yowled. She didn't listen and kept flailing. "ROSE! PLAY DEAD!" He yelled with all of breath left in his body. She went limp and relief flooded over him like a wave. He launched for the twoleg and clawed at it's leg. More twolegs came he looked around terrified. They were trapped!some of the twolegs had masks and gloves on even if they got through the twolegs they couldn't get through the vans! The twoleg threw rose into the back of the van and drew closer to him. He pressed against the ground. "ROSE GET OUT OF HERE!" He yowled. "I'm not leaving without you!" She yowled back. "Remember i would die for you! This is what it takes to prove it." He heard rose yowl in protest but then run away. The twolegs closed in on him and picked him up instead of rose, throwing him in the van.

Rose ran for her life as fast as she possibly could. Would she be on top of the tower? She gulped wanting to leave what had just happened behind. I never should've doubted him! She finally made it to the clocktower. All of the cats were looking at her with concern. "What happened to the other cat?" One asked. Rose felt hot beneath her pelt. "We were attacked by twolegs... He was taken and put in a van." She said quietly. "Oh you poor thing!" A motherly voice rang across the hollow. Rose looked up to see a small white she cat with pale yellow eyes looking down on her like she had seen this happen before. She looked over her shoulder at a narrow alleyway. "Follow me for a minute." She said softly. Rose hesitated but then padded after the white queen. They stopped in the alleyway and she looked down it hoping to see the kind face of blank staring right at her but she frowned to see just an alleyway. "What's so special about an alleyway with nothing but twoleg garbage?" She asked. "There's more." She swept away some garbage with her tail to unveil three small kits all huddled together. They all felt freezing like they would turn to ice any minute now. One of them mewed. "My litter was taken by a bunch of twolegs hungry for destruction. I've promised to guard these ones with my life." she said. She looked down at them. One of them looked like... like her! "Where did you find them?" She said hopefully. "Some careless parents gave me them. They kept one though cause they said they had a good offer for her even with her disease." She muttered. "I'm the other kitten!" She yowled in delight. "Oh please please let me take them home and play with me. We'll have so much fun!" She begged. "I'm sorry but no. if they're going i'm going too." She mewed sternly. "Then come! Our group would love to have you in our camp!" she hesitated. "Okay let's go." they walked back to the group. She pricked her ears in alarm as she heard the sound of huge claws ripping fur she sensed distress and horror coming from the clearing. The twolegs had found the base! She sprinted along all of the twists and turns that lead to the barn they lived in. she caught a glimpse of teeth hitting a cat then she saw twolegs circling around the clearing. Blood was splattered all over the floor. She yowled when she saw the bodies of cats littering the clearing and some of them being thrown in the van. The twolegs were holding long strings attached to huge dogs that were attacking the cats. She felt claws sink into her back and she lept on the dog's shoulders and sank her claws into them. "If i can get a cat over here help hold the dog down we could make it turn tail and run!" She yowled. Leaving the kits in a safe nest, the white queen came charging into the battle ready to take on anything to save the cats. Her jaws clamped shut on the dog's tail and the dog yelped in surprise turning towards her. She jumped over the dog's head and onto the back swiping her claws along its fur. The dog barked and ran away. Both the cats jumped off and yowled in triumph. They looked around the clearing to see the other dogs looking at them frightened. Perhaps they looked bigger to the dogs now. She flexed her claws ready to take on another but the rest of them fled. The twolegs gave up and walked away grumbling. Rose puffed her chest out in pride. "Thank you for helping save the group." She said dipping her head to the white queen. "What's your name even?" She asked remembering that she barely knew this cat. "Oh my name is star." she replied. Rose felt a bit of hope flutter inside her. "Star as in blanks mother?" She asked hopefully. "How did you know?" She asked her eyes filling with hope. "He was the cat that got taken by twolegs." She muttered. Star gasped. "So you knew him?" she asked. "Yes he was my mentor. Blank was a good cat." She said sighing. They sat in silence. Some voices of the surviving cats rang in the clearing but other than that complete silence. "Someone say my name?" A voice rippled across the clearing. Was that... Blanks voice? She looked up in astonishment to see blank his fur fluffed out against the cold air buffeting his pelt. "Blank!" Both star and rose said at the same time. Blank jumped down from the mound of twoleg litter. He brushed muzzles with rose. "Mother. I'm so sorry we ran off when we were only kits. It was a mistake. I've missed you so much. The others dies on the journey here i'm so sorry." Tears formed in his bright blue eyes and he buried his muzzle into his mother's soft fur. "It's okay. You're home now. You're safe." She whispered
