It was just a normal day - or, as normal as it could be for Sal. He had done his daily routine - Wake up early, which is usually due to nightmares, get himself dressed in one of his many of the same outfit - ripped red jeans and a black shirt , put his glass eye in, mask on, brushed his messy blue hair and put it into two nearly-even pigtails, then hoped today would be a good day. But something felt strange about his glass eye, like it was being pushed forward. He figured it was nothing unless it became a problem to him. He walked out into the living room to find his cat, Gizmo, sitting on the couch watching the early morning news.
"Any interesting stories today, Little Buddy?" Sal said, walking into the kitchen as the cat meowed in response. He didn't pay attention to the news very much since it didn't really catch his interest, but he liked to ask Gizmo questions he knew he couldn't answer. He poured himself a bowl of cereal, ate, then headed to school.
All day, the push against his glass eye was bothering him, so he decided to visit the school nurse, who said that he shouldn't worry about it and sent him back to class. But it was still an annoyance the rest of the day.
That night, as he was getting ready for bed, he noticed something . . . strange. There was something growing from his eye socket. He just stood, staring and trying to figure out what it was that he was seeing. . . Upon closer inspection, he saw that there were vines growing in where his eye should be. His head spun in confusion
"Uh, Dad?" He called out, stumbling into his father's room.
All he got in response was a "can't talk right now, Sal.", Which was a phrase he heard all too often. As he looked over his shoulder, he saw a beer bottle and something typed onto his computer screen, but he was unsure of what his dad was typing and was too afraid to ask"But dad— I-It's important."
Soon as he knew it he got shooed away, so he decided to go to the next best person — Lisa.
