"Hey guys, any of you seen Noko around?" Andy asked as soon as he walked in the door. He motioned to me to stand on the stoop so I did. The door was shut in my face. He left me alone standing in front of this immaculate house looking like the lost tourist I am.
"Maybe it would have been a good idea to call her before I just hopped the plane. Oh well, it's too late now." I grumbled to myself and kept standing there. Finally the door knob started to twist and the door came open to reveal a short black haired girl with eyes the color of milk chocolate. Just the way I remembered her. She stared at me for a while; examining me I suppose. Should I talk first? Should I grab her and hug her? God why the hell did I just show up?
"Ummm, hi Noko. It's been a while." I smiled at her and she just stared back; no smile, no giggle, no words; just complete silence. I should not have come. She came towards me enough so she could shut the door and we were alone on the porch. She leaned against the door almost like she didn't have the strength to be out of bed.
"Why are you here?." She asked in a groggy voice and she looked past me and out towards the road. She didn't want me to be here. I'm so stupid.
"I got accepted for that job here and I took it and now I'm here." I smiled at her and walked forward like I was going to gather her in for a hug but the look on her face told me that she would cut me if I came near her so I refrained. "You don't look happy to see me." I frowned and started gathering all of my stuff so I could walk to the nearest motel.
"Come on." She said and opened the door for me."
