After much arguing between two people, tantrums being thrown by the elder of the pair, judicious applications of crocodile tears and many, many, renegotiated concessions –that resembles a hostile business takeover rather than applying for a part-time job– Xiao Yu wasted no time and went to the knock on the doorways of the 'Sighing Willows', with Teacher Xu's letter of recommendation in his hands.
The grand manager enthusiastic welcome was comically anticlimactic, considering the troubles he went through.
After a session with a few of the “young ladies” of the establishment, Xiao Yu was happily accepted to be the resident zither player, to be called upon whenever such music was required.
He spent several days familiarizing himself with the rest of the in-house musicians, exchanging pointers and tricks of the trade.
And all of this was done with the accompaniment of the twin beam of lazer fire that was his grandmother's glare.
Unrelenting, never ending, infinite.
The rest of the establishment's workforce weren't certain whether to laugh or cry at this continuous display of disgruntled elderly wrath.
Venerated Madam, Gracious Lady, Da Lao Furen ah! Are you trying to glare us all to early grave, ah?
Several of the resident “young ladies” were very much amused at how much visible shrinking occurred when one was exposed to the glare. Big strapping young men hunched down and scurried away, musicians that were reduced to clutching their instruments as if it could shield them from harm, and the grand manager positively bending over backwards to appease the great lady's ire.
Grandma Shan wasn't impressed.
