Ten years later...

"Happy birthday!" Ed yelled as he barged in my room.

"Oh yes! Another year of me not aging. How fun." I say sarcastically.

"Oh please. Still as beautiful as ever." he winks.

"Oh King Edmund! Such flattery I can hardly stand it!" I joke.

We laugh at each other and exit the room.

"What's the schedule for today?" I asked.

"Well Peter has asked me to join a meeting today in about an hour. Susan is giving a tour of the castle to a possible suitor. And Lucy is probably reading in the library. What will you be doing?" he asks, looping his arm around mine.

"She will be going to the woods and settling a dispute in a village not far from here." Peter stated, rounding a corner and surprising us.

"Please tell me it's not those badgers again!" I complain, dropping my arms from Edmund's.

"Sorry Vianna but apparently it's getting violent and needs to be stopped. Pretty please?"

I groan.

"Fine. But when I get back, there better be cake in the dining hall."

They both chuckled at me as Peter walked off.

"You'll be safe as always, right?" Edmund asked.

"I'll try my hardest."

I pulled him into a hug as usual before I head out. His arms wrapped right around my waist.

We pulled back and I smiled before making my way to the stables for my horse.

I had butterflies in my stomach. Edmund just always gave me that feeling. He has been for years. Lucy has always mentioned a connection between us but we've both denied it in fear of the other actually finding out the truth.

I do like Edmund. But we both have duties to our people. And I'm sure he is to find a suitable queen for himself. Although it pains me, it was for the best that our feelings were hidden.

Pushing the thoughts away, I hopped onto my horse. Riding though the forest was relaxing as always until I heard the commotion.

Shouting and yelling. Particularly insults.

Two sides of the village of badgers were arguing and throwing things at the other.

"Stealing wood is one thing but food is not acceptable! Be like the rest of us and work for a change!" the main badger shouted.

"Excuse me." I interrupt.

They all looked at me in shock and cleared their throats.

"M'lady. We were not aware you were crossing through here." one mentioned.

"Yes that's obvious. This is the third time I've had to come all the way out here for these disputes of yours."

"But-"

I held my hand up, "I won't tolerate this madness anymore. State the problem. And we'll see if we can fix it for good this time or one of you is in serious trouble with High King Peter."

"He's been stealing food from all of us!" the main one accused.

"First it was our wood. But then he broke into our homes and stole our food. The food we worked for and grew ourselves." another added.

I looked at the suspect.

"Is this true?"

The badger nodded their head in shame and looked down.
