Thursday was drawing near and Adrien had so much on his mind. It all stemmed from Marinette's question she had asked him. "What if the Germans knock down my door and arrest my family?" Would that really happen? Maybe. if everything Adrien had read about the Nazis was true.
He looked around his room for any prying eyes. Even though he was alone he couldn't help but feel someone was watching him when he was doing something dangerous. It was a good feeling to have, it kept him on edge at all times. Adrien opened up his desk's bottom drawer and pulled up it's flooring. It revealed a bunch of papers with a number of dates.
They were newspapers made by the resistance members in Paris. Illegal and a sure way to get arrested, or killed. Adrien had found one in a trash can a few weeks back and it showed the truth he couldn't see otherwise. Cruelty by the Nazis, updates on the war, and uplifting stories. One of the writers Adrien had come to enjoy reading was a writer that called herself Ladybug.
She had written a number of articles of what hope there still was. Of the French Government in England swearing to retake our home, or the constant push push of President Roosevelt on Congress in America to join the war and aid the Allies. This women inspired Adrien, but he still wasn't convinced the war had changed.
Africa was losing ground, and Russia still held no major victory. America, though having a President that wanted to help, still remained neutral. Still America's patience was draining as German ships sunk U.S. Humanitarian ships bringing food to English civilians. They seem to take the lose of American life very seriously. If Hitler wasn't careful he may force America's hand. To Adrien that would be a turning point in which he would believe in freedom from Germany.
A knock came at the door and Adrien covered his illegal papers with his Chinese textbook. He had done this so many times it was second nature. Once he was sure it was all hidden he answered his door.
"You have a visitor." Nathalie said as Adrien opened the door.
"Adriekins!" A voice called out.
Adrien was knocked backed as a girl wrapped her arms around him. She went to kiss him but he pushed her away. The girl assaulting him was a blonde girl named Chloe Bourgeois. She was the Daughter of a Politician who supported the Nazis like Adrien's own Father. He and Chloe had been friends for year and he wanted it to stay that way.
"Hey Chloe," Adrien said ignoring the fact she tried to kiss him. "Why are you here?"
"Daddy had to talk to your Father about something important." Chloe said. "Maybe it's about what time would be best for us to get married."
"Funny joke Chloe." Adrien said heading back to his desk. "It's more then likely some thing related to the Germans."
"Yes, the Germans," Chloe said a little displeased about Adrien's last comment. "I'm so glade they've arrived to help us chosen few to bring greatness back to France."
"That sounded well rehearsed." Adrien said with a fake smile. "Not all of France would agree though."
"Those are just fools who have yet to see German greatness like you an I." Chloe said moving to Adrien's mirror near his bed to make sure she still looked 'perfect'. "Like that Baker's girl stray you hang out with. She always hated the Germans before they won the war in France."
"It's impossible to make everyone like something." Adrien said growing defensive as Marinette got drawn into the conversation. "Marinette just needs time is all."
"Well, what ever." Chloe said looming over Adrien's shoulder. "What you doing?"
"Studying my Chinese." Adrien said hoping to bore the girl. "I have a test coming up."
"Oh, I know some Chinese." Chloe smirked. "Wo ai ni."
"Guess I really need to study." Adrien laughed. "I don't know that one."
Adrien was lying as he knew exactly what Chloe had said. 'Wo ai ni' means 'I Love You' when translated. As Chloe began to say something else Adrien's door flew open.
"Miss Bourgeois," Nathalie said. "Your Father is waiting for you outside."
Chloe huffed and stomped away as Adrien said good-bye. When the door closed behind her Adrien's fake smile faded. He lifted his Chinese textbook to reveal his illegal papers. After putting them back into hiding Adrien locked his desk. That was way to close.
Standing up Adrien made his way to his window. He watched Chloe and her Father leave and gave a sigh of relief. Chloe was like a sister to him and he hated how she had a crush on him, well more on his family's power. He also hated how she agreed with the Nazis.
She had also made it clear that she disliked Marinette. Adrien suddenly felt himself getting angry. How could anyone hate Marinette? She was extremely smart and clever, trust worthy, beautiful, cute, and... Adrien noticed everything he listed off in his head and felt his heart beat increase. Something felt different then before. He hadn't ever thought those things about Marinette until recently. 'No way it could be that, right?' Adrien asked himself in his mind. Could it really be... was he falling for her?
