“Grace, love?” I hear Klaus ask for me from downstairs.

I was reading a book upstairs in the library. I had been in here at least an hour so far and I wasn’t planning on leaving any time soon. It was a book on vampire bonds, the same bond that Klaus and I shared. Overall, it was very interesting and I hated to stop in the middle of it.

Instead of yelling, I just used our mind link. One of the joyous parts of the bond. Wherever we were, we could always get into each other’s mind. It was kind of like an automatic cell phone connection, I suppose.

What is it, dear? I’m in the middle of a book.

He chuckles. What? Didn’t invite me for vampire book club? How sad. Anyway, Stefan is here and he brought a friend… I believe you should meet her.

The way he said it made me curious… Who could it be and why did he sound so urgent? Without another word, I laid my book face down and descended down the main staircase. Klaus was standing in the foyer with Stefan and a young, brunette. As I got closer, I realized she wasn’t human. But instead, a werewolf.

As I stood by Klaus, he popped in my head. Read her aura, love.

Reading someone’s aura was at times difficult, but thankfully, Mother Nature had given me the gift, just as she had given Elijah… Oh, Elijah.

My heart saddened as I recalled the day Elijah left us… Elijah was Klaus’ brother and also my best friend. He was the one that turned me all those years ago and he had truly saved my life on more than one occasion.

Last year, after Klaus and I realized that we were soul mates and we really were in love with one another, we told Elijah to leave. Not in a bad way, of course, but he had taken care of both of us for so long, he deserved to find his one true love. And he promised me, that once he found her, he’d be back so we could meet her.

But it’s been a year now and we have yet to see him…

I looked closer and focused my attention on her distinctive quality… She was glowing bright red… Wait a minute… Someone else’s aura was red… Then I noticed a small white luster from her heart… She was bonded.

She reminds you of someone, I hope…

“Elijah.” I mutter under my breath. She was Elijah’s soul mate? And she just showed up on our door step? I had to get Elijah here!

            “What’s your name?” I ask.

She seemed shy but eventually spoke. “Erika.”

I smile. “Nice to meet you Erika, I’m Grace… So, what brought you here?”

She looks to Stefan. “I did.” He responds. “I found her last night in the forest. As you know, last night was a full moon. She was in her wolf form and was very hurt.” I knew she was a young werewolf, probably had only turned once or twice.

“Is someone after you?” Klaus asks.

She pauses. “I’ve been stalked by a guy I met in Florida. He’s a vampire, but he claims to have some kind of power over me… Something about a bond?”

“Elijah?” No, it couldn’t be… He wasn’t the type to stalk people.

She shakes her head. “No… I believe he said his name was Kol?”

Klaus and I both look at each other, startled. Kol was his younger brother. And anywhere he went, trouble came with him. He was one person that Klaus didn’t take too kindly to, but then again, Klaus didn’t really get along with many people…

“Uh, why don’t we get you all cleaned up? Follow me.” Erika and I head upstairs as I take her into my room. I figured that I could get more out of her if I got her alone…

As I started to look through my closet for extra clothes, she asked, “Do you know Kol? It seemed as if you don’t like him… Is there a reason?”

I sigh. “Kol is family and we’re not that fond of him… He can be, well, pushy…” I hand her some fresh clothes. “Go clean up and put these on. They should fit. The bathroom is right through there,” I point to a door beside the closet. “I’ll be downstairs.” She graciously nodded as I returned to Stefan and Klaus.

“How are we gonna deal with this? I will not let Kol get in the middle of Elijah’s happiness. You know he deserves it.” My voice goes cold.

Klaus nods. “I agree, love. But I think I should go find Kol first. I’m sure he’ll be delighted to see me.” He smirks. “Meanwhile, you do everything in your power to find Elijah.” He started to leave and when he opened the front door, we both gasp.

            There he was.

Dressed in his usual suit and tie and that lovely smirk across his face, stood Elijah. I completely lost it. “Oh my God! How did you know?” He wasn’t quite expecting me to run and jump into his arms, but thankfully, vampire speed had its benefits and that included fast reflexes.

            He chuckles. “Know what?”

It seemed like forever before I pulled away, but I finally answered his question. “That we needed you, silly. You had to know, you showed up just in time!”

He seemed confused. “Grace, I’m afraid I don’t follow.”

I looked back at Klaus and he nodded. I guess I got to tell him that his soul mate was in this house. But I wasn’t complaining, I loved delivering good news! “Well, strange turn of events, actually… You’ll never guess who-” I stopped midsentence when I noticed Elijah’s eyes were no longer on me. I turned to see what he was looking at.

Erika was standing at the top of the stairs. Her eyes fixated on Elijah’s… The bond had been awoken. I noticed both their auras not only matched, but they were on fire. When Elijah looked away, he seemed shocked. “I’ve been to every state in the U.S. and nearly every country on the map, and this whole time, she was here.”

I smile. “Well, technically, she just got here, so don’t feel bad. But come with me, I’ll explain.” I turn to Stefan and Klaus. “Would you try to explain this to her, as well.” They nod as I take Elijah into the parlor.

“She’s here…” He kept repeating over and over.

“Yes, she is. Stefan brought her here. He found her last night in the woods. She’s a werewolf, Elijah and a very young one at that… She was very shaken and when I talked to her, she told me that she was running from someone… Someone that she had met in Florida.”

His eyes grew dark with anger. “Who? Are they here?” He asks, quickly.

I nod. “Yes… But Elijah, you have to promise me that you won’t lose your temper. I know you, you are very noble and loyal… You can’t rip out someone’s heart when you don’t know the full story…”

He sighs and adjusts his jacket. “I am a man of my word, Grace, and I will not hurt any human being unless they hurt her.” He states.

“Okay… Can you add supernatural creature to that list?”

He didn’t seem to get the joke. “Grace, tell me, please. I will not have someone pose as a threat to my-our future.” I didn’t want to tell him this way, but what choice did I have?

            “Elijah… It’s Kol.”
