            Oh, Elijah, please hurry…

It seemed like forever and an eternity since I had last seen him. He came to make sure I was alright but I don’t how long ago that was. I had no sense of time here but it seemed like days. I kept replaying the beautiful moment over and over in my head. I missed him, I missed us. I just wanted to go back and live my life with him.

I had sat here on this tree limb reliving our memories together and each time I saw him, it was like the first time… I couldn’t do anything here, I couldn’t save myself. My life-our life was in Elijah’s hands and I prayed that he would find the loophole and soon… I wasn’t sure how much longer I could hold on…

“Elijah…” I heard myself mutter from below. I was now watching a memory from New Orleans. We were there for a royal ball not long before I met Niklaus for the first time…

“Yes?” He smiled and took my hand as we walked through the center of town. “You simply must find a gown today, Grace. We won’t have time tomorrow.”

            I nodded. “I know but I don’t see anything I like.”

“Does it really matter what it looks like? You could make anything look beautiful.” I blushed and quickly rolled my eyes to cover it up. “You know I’m right. I don’t see why you can’t wear something you already have. Surely, we aren’t toting all those dresses around for nothing.”

I playfully smacked him on the shoulder. “One does not go to a royal ball in something old. You might as well not even go and it is simply rude.” It goes quiet for a while as we walk through the busy streets. Horses and carriages line them as we zigzag our way through the frenzy of people. “Elijah,” I mutter again.

I sighed knowing how badly I wanted to tell him. “Ah, that one, huh?” He adds, pointing to a dark blue gown in a window of a seamstress’ shop. “It’s nice but-”

I cut him off. “No, Elijah, listen!” That definitely got his attention as he looked at me with wide eyes. I had to tell him, it had gone on for long enough… “I-I l-like the purple one.” I nodded toward another window and hug my head in defeat.

“That one is even better.” He smiled and walked toward the store as I stood in the middle of the street, mentally beating myself up for the three words I didn’t say…

            I. Love. You.

                        Elijah’s POV

I threw the glass of scotch at the wall in anger. Nothing I had tried had worked and it had been two days already. How much longer could she hold on? I looked to the bed where her lifeless body lay. She was pale and cold to the touch. I knew she was strong but there was only so much she could take… “Nothing?” Kol entered the room and glanced at Grace.

I shake my head. “If you have no suggestions, I suggest you leave us be.”

And of course, Niklaus had to jump in on the topic. “Goodness, someone is in a rather raw mood.” He stands in the doorway and smiles. “Taking a lesson from me, I see?”

My patience had grown thin-scratch that-I had no patience. “I do not see how you can find the humor in this situation, Niklaus. We are losing her! Don’t you see that?” He looked to the ground before making eye contact with me.

“Then do something about it.” He growls.

“I don’t know what to do! I’ve talked with the witches, I’ve threated Esmerelda, I’ve done everything! I don’t know how to bring her back! If I did, she wouldn’t be dying right now!”

Kol stepped forward. “Have you talked with her Mother?”

I shake my head. “No, I couldn’t reach her. It’s like she’s gone missing.” That was no lie. I had enough power to go to her, but every time I tried, she wasn’t there.

Niklaus cocks an eyebrow. “Well, isn’t that interesting… You would think a mother would be even the slightest bit worried…” As if on cue, thunder erupted from the ground. It shook the house momentarily as I smirked, knowing it was Mother Nature’s way of responding to Niklaus.

“I believe she heard you…” I muttered under my breath.

Niklaus was about to say something but he got cut off by a blinding white light in front of us. We all turned away to shield our eyes and when it finally dimmed, there she was… Mother Nature in human form. “I came as quickly as I could.” She turns to me. “I know you tried to contact me but I already knew what was to come… I had to go see my mother, the universe, as do we all, right now.”

She walked over to Grace and put her hand on her forehand. “I can only take three, Kol. But we won’t be gone but a minute…” Knowing the drill, Klaus and I held on to Grace’s hand as we left our bodies…

I was expecting the white forest but I was wrong. We were still in our world, we could see ourselves standing over Grace’s body and Kol standing in the doorway. “Why do they always get to have all the fun?” He mutters to himself.

“My poor granddaughter… I should have known better.” A quiet voice whispered. Assuming that was the universe, I looked back to Mother Nature. She smiled and nodded, giving me a silent yes. “I told you, dear. We should have kept her here with us. Letting her live amongst the humans was a huge mistake. She could have lived an eternity of peace controlling the elements but instead, you decided to give her the human special.”

Mother Nature sighed. “I gave her a chance at happiness and I believe she has found it.” She glances to me and smiles before continuing. “Elijah doubted himself for a second and now, look at her. I told you when you started messing around with sacred bonds that the rule of unwanted bonds didn’t apply! If they have the bond, they love each other. End of story.”

She growled in response. “I see that now.” She goes silent before speaking again. Salvummi, gratia.” Mother Nature looked back to Grace as did I.

I can’t explain how I felt in that very moment… I watched her eyes fluttered open. Her spirit lifted from the bed and walked toward us. She was smiling so bright with life… I had never been so relieved. “Grandmother, I believe we haven’t met. I’m Grace.”

She laughs. “Oh, yes we have. You just don’t remember, dear.”

“Thank you for bringing me back.”

            Silence once more.

“Grace,” She hesitates. “When you were born, I begged your mother to keep you here. You were so powerful and pure. You could do a lot of good here with the elements… You’ve had your taste of human life. Why not come back where you belong? With your real family.”
