Things between Thomas and Alexander didn't stop in fact it was more frequent. Thomas would flirt with Alexander at work just to annoy him. It reached a critical point when they had a discussion over dinner about Alexander's debt plan where Madison got annoyed asking Thomas to stop.

Thomas was worried, he had left his position of secretary of state to run for president, he lost unfortunately, to John Adams, he did become vice president at least.

But that is not what he was worried about, he didn't say anything about him and Alexander to Madison, if he knew he'd probably make Thomas expose them or make him break it off, neither of those sounded pleasant.

He managed to pull it off for a while he didn't say anything and Madison didn't question him all tho he seemed to be suspicious. But Burr decided to follow the money.

You see Madison wanted to ruin Alexander, he would do anything and the same goes for Burr all tho Burr seemed to have a motive, the motive being jealousy. He was confused as to why Madison wanted to ruin him so badly but he had other, more important, things to worry about.

So Burr and Madison followed the money and it lead to one and only James Reynolds. They stormed into Alexander's office Madison dragging Thomas along. He kept his head down as Madison and Burr presented the dirt they had on Alexander but he had it coming right back at them with letters Reynolds sent him. They read it and Burr looked at Thomas shock written all over him face while Madison looked disappointed. Thomas looked down at his shoes, he knew it was coming and still the same feeling of shame rose in him once again.

Thomas felt as if someone was looking at him, it wasn't Madison or Burr it was Alexander. He looked back at him their eyes meeting, in Alexander's eyes he saw determination to protect his legacy even if it meant exposing them both. Thomas was terrified, Alexander's going to do something stupid and ruin them and Thomas knew it.

Madison and Burr finally came back from their shocked state simply looking at him and Alexander "people won't know what we know". They exited but Thomas waited a bit "please don't do something stupid that you'll regret latter". It was no use Alexander already had a plan and nobody's going to stop him now.
