It was Beca Mitchell's first day of kindergarten and she was more than a little nervous. She had never been away from her parents before but they kept reassuring her that everything was going to be okay.

"You'll be fine, Becs," Beca's mother told her, kneeling down to her level and giving the child a comforting look. "You'll have fun and you'll make friends. It'll be really good - I promise."

Beca was unsure about a lot of things but her mother always managed to calm her down.

"Promise?" Beca uttered.

"Pinky," the mother held out her pinky finger and locked it with Beca. "Promise."

Beca smiled and shook her mother's finger, confident that everything was going to be okay because her mother said so and whatever her mother said went.

"Now, come on, let's go." Beca's mother took her daughter's hand and led her into the room where all of the other kids were playing.

Beca held onto her mother's hand tightly and stuck close to her as she observed all of her surroundings. There were lots of kids playing with each other, laughing, talking, and having fun. The walls were covered with colourful pictures and patterns and there were toys everywhere as well. Even though it seemed like a friendly place, Beca wished she didn't have to leave but if her mother said that it was going to be okay, then it was going to be okay. Mother's are never wrong.

"Hi!"

While her mother was talking to the teacher, Beca turned around and was greeted by another girl her age. She had red hair and bright blue eyes in a flowy dark blue dress and white shoes. Beca had never seen eyes so bright before and she was quite taken aback by them.

"Hello," Beca uttered nervously.

"I'm Chloe!" The little girl beamed. "What's your name?"

"Beca."

"Bec!"

"Beca."

"Becs!"

"No. BECA!"

"BECA!" Chloe mimicked, making both girls giggle. "Come play with me, Beca!"

"Oh... I... I don't know... I'm still with my mommy..."

By this point, Beca's mother had finished talking to the kindergarten teacher and was watching Beca and Chloe's interaction.

"It's okay, sweetie," Beca's mother told her softly. "Go on and play. Mommy has to go now."

"Mm..." Beca turned and clung to her mother's leg, making the woman kneel back down and give her daughter a hug.

"You're going to be okay, sweetie. Time will go by fast and I'll be back to pick you up before you know it, okay? Promise."

"Pinky?"

"Pinky," Beca and her mother shook pinky fingers again, giving Beca the reassurance and closure that she needed.

The mother gave her daughter a kiss and another cuddle. "I love you, my little star,"

"I love you, too, mommy,"

"My precious girl..." Beca's mother gave the child a soft squeeze then stood back up and exchanged a few last words with the teacher before she left.

"Come play with me, Beca!" Chloe grabbed Beca's hand and yanked her over to the corner where Chloe was playing with a few other girls.

Beca looked down and they were putting a puzzle together.

"Aww! Aubrey! You finished it without me!" Chloe whined.

"You were too slow!" The little blonde girl said.

"Bec, this is Aubrey," Chloe introduced.

"Aubrey," the blonde held out her hand and Beca frowned at it. "You shake it."

Beca still didn't do anything and it made Aubrey rolled her eyes and sigh exasperatedly.

"Here!" Aubrey took Beca's hand and shook it hard. "Shake!"

"Ow!" Beca yanked her hand back and rubbed it.

"Bree! You hurt her!" Chloe took Beca's hand in hers and kissed it. "There! All better!"

"Thanks," Beca forced a smile.

"Sit down, Bec," Chloe made Beca sit down with her.

"It's Beca," the brunette corrected.

"I like Bec." Chloe beamed then messed up the puzzle.

"Chloe!" Aubrey whined.

"It's Becs' turn!"

"Make her do another one!"

"YOU do another one!"

Aubrey huffed then stormed off.

"Here, Bec," Chloe gave Beca the puzzle piece that she needed.

Beca took it and placed it in the space that it needed to go. She stuck her tongue out in the corner of her mouth as she concentrated hard on putting the puzzle pieces in the right places.

"Done!" Beca threw her hands up in victory as she gazed down at her completed puzzle, which was a picture of a puppy in a teacup.

"Yay!" Chloe clapped her hands. "Bec! Can you do this?" Chloe grabbed a toy which was a cup on a stick and attached was a ball on a string. "I can't get it in the cup."

Beca took the toy and stuck her tongue out again as she tried hard to get the ball in the cup and after multiple attempts, the little brunette was successful.

"Wow!" Chole's eyes went wide. "You did it!"

"I did!" Beca smiled then received a hug from Chloe.

"Chloe!" Aubrey returned to the redhead. "Play with me now!" The blonde grabbed Chloe's hand and pulled her away from Beca.

Beca watched disheartened as Chloe was dragged away. The redhead turned and looked at Beca saddened but Beca was soon approached by another child.

"Oh! Pretty picture!"

Beca looked at the child who was another girl with dark brown hair and blue eyes, but not as blue as Chloe's. They were dark but still pretty.

"Can I play with it?" The girl pointed to the puzzle on the ground.

"Okay," Beca said then watched the girl sit down, mess up the puzzle, and begin to put it back together again. "I'm Beca."

"I'm Stacie," the girl smiled.

"Hi,"

"Hi!" Stacie grinned at her broadly then focused down at her puzzle.

"Bec!" Chloe bounced back over to Beca. "Aubrey is having a sleepover tomorrow. Did you want to come?"

"Ah... I don't know... I'll have to ask my mommy."

"Okay! I hope to see you there! I like you, Bec!"

Beca blushed. "I like you, too, Chloe."

"You want to come, Stacie?"

"Yeah!" The little girl cheered.

"Yes! I'll tell Bree!" With that, Chloe turned on her heel and skipped away.
