Beca was now in high school and by this stage, the brunette had developed a badass persona with a serious attitude. A lot of people didn't like her for that exact reason but Beca still had Chloe and that's all that mattered. She became more and more distant with her father and everyone around her, all except for Chloe. Chloe still remained by Beca's side and was always there for her through thick and thin.
"Hey, Becs," Chloe greeted as she walked into Beca's bedroom. "Becs?"
Beca didn't answer. She was too wrapped up in her music that she didn't even notice Chloe's presence. Chloe tutted with an eye roll, dropped her school bag by the door, and sat next to Beca, pulling her headphones off.
"Dude!" Beca yelled.
"Say hello then!"
Beca grumbled, hating it when people interrupted her but as always, Chloe was an exception. A few people had removed Beca's headphones from her ears and the brunette ripped into them, making sure that person never did it again and they didn't, all except for Chloe. Beca never snapped at her best friend and she hated how Chloe could pretty much do anything she wanted and get away with it. Sure, Beca got a little grumpy but it only lasted a few seconds since she never could stay mad at her best friend for long. As soon as Chloe smiled, Beca forgot what she was even grumpy about and focused on the redhead.
"Hello, Chloe," Beca said. "That better?"
"Much. Now, where's your homework?"
"Still in my bag."
"What? Beca!" Chloe slapped the brunette's leg.
"Ow! What, dude?"
"You know what! We're supposed to go over our answers together and you haven't even done your part!"
"I was busy!"
"Yeah, I'm sure you were," Chloe's tone was thick with sarcasm, causing Beca to roll her eyes again. "Come on, save what you've done and let's go this. We've got a test tomorrow."
"I hate Math!" Beca whined, closing her laptop.
"But you're good at it!"
"No, I'm not. I suck. I'm a C student at best."
"Hey, as long as you pass that's all that matters. Now, let's do this."
"Fine," Beca sighed heavily then stood to put her laptop on her desk only for Chloe to reach out and slap her behind. "Ah! Dude!" Beca jumped, putting her hand on her butt.
"Don't give me that attitude, Mitchell, you know you have to study if you want to pass."
"That hurt!"
"Oh, don't be such a baby!"
"I'm NOT! That hurt!"
"Oh, boo-hoo..."
"That's it." Beca marched over to her bed where Chloe was and tackled her.
"Ah!" Chloe giggled then began to wrestle with Beca who was trying to get to Chloe's butt to smack it. "Beca!"
"Turn over, Beale, this'll be over before you know it!"
"Never!"
"Fine! Have it your way then!" Beca didn't stop trying but her determination quickly diminished when she heard Chloe's rippling giggles coming from underneath her.
What began as a wrestling match soon turned into a tickling one where Beca got to all of Chloe's ticklish spots, making the redhead cry out in laughter, tears springing to her eyes in the process. Beca laughed at the sight and kept tickling Chloe until the redhead begged her to stop in threat of peeing her pants. Beca was reluctant but she didn't want an accident to occur so she stopped, allowing the two of them to catch their breath.
Beca was now hovering over Chloe as she calmed down. The redhead settled her giggles then looked up at her best friend. The two smiled at each other but that smile quickly faded once they stared into one another's eyes. Chloe's were so beautiful Beca found herself getting lost in them, which she had done on many occasions before. Every time she did, she got a fuzzy feeling in her stomach, very similar to the one she got when she held hands with Chloe in the movie theatre when she was younger. Beca's eyes were dark and mysterious and people really had to be close to Beca to see what colour they were. Some people often mistook them for being grey but they were dark blue like the ocean. Chloe loved looking at Beca's eyes. Even though the brunette was closed off, Chloe saw that Beca's eyes held so much emotion. She could see past Beca's persona and saw the real Beca who Chloe adored.
The two of them weren't sure how long they were staring at each other for but that's when the strangest thing happened. Chloe took a breath and leaned up to place the gentlest of pecks on the brunette's lips. It was a brief, snappy kiss but it was enough to make Beca freeze as well as her heart. Chloe pulled away and looked at her best friend, wondering whether or not that was okay but Beca didn't answer. She continued to look at the redhead - no idea what to say or do.
"Ah, h, homework," Beca uttered and clambered awkwardly off of Chloe. "How about I quickly do the worksheet while you study and when I'm done we can go through our homework?"
"Ah, yeah, sure," Chloe nodded.
"C, cool." Beca swallowed then quickly got her homework out from her bag and sat on her desk where she emersed herself with the worksheet while Chloe remained on the bed and looked through her notes.
However, neither girl was able to focus much. They kept thinking back to what just happened. They both wanted to say something and talk about it but they had no idea what to say. Beca would have been lying if she said that she didn't feel something for Chloe and Chloe didn't feel something for Beca. They had been best friends their whole lives but being more than friends? It was an odd thought but not one that went unnoticed. Both girls got tingles whenever they were close such as sitting together, having their arms around one another, holding hands, and other innocent things. Of course, Chloe was always the one to initiate the contact but Beca never pulled away or stopped her.
They both had these feelings that they had no idea what to do with. That's when Chloe decided to just bite the bullet and see if her feelings for her best friend were real and they were. Chloe felt something inside her that she never felt before when she kissed Beca. She felt like fireworks were going off or something like that and Beca felt the exact same thing but again, they had no idea what to do about it so the two best friends just left it and never spoke of the incident again.
