A/N:Hey guys! Thanks for reading this story! 😍 😍 This is my first story on Wattpad so it might not be so interesting at the early chapters but as the story goes on please 🙏 don't be stingy with your votes and comments for me because they will be the pushing force for this story to continue. Once again, thanks for reading this story!!

The clatter of pots in the kitchen which was adjacent to one of the two windows of her room jerked her out of sleep but her eyes closed shut as soon as they were opened due to the blinding rays of the morning sun which shone directly on her face through the thin piece of cloth that served as a curtain in the room. The cold wasn't helping matters because she tugged her wrapper tightly around herself and continued to snuggle in sleep despite the fact that she was aware it was a weekday which invariably meant a school day.

She was still sleeping when she felt the light pat of her mother's hand on her back. "Mimi, wake up" "Mama, it's too early na", she drawled with her eyes closed. Suddenly, she felt her wrapper tugged off her body exposing it to the chilly cold. Grumbling, she got up, greeted her mother and tottered out through the door into the living room where they knelt down for their morning devotion to pray to GOD, thanking him for keeping them alive and beseeched him to guide and protect them as they go about their daily activities that day.

Thirty minutes after she was awake, she was ready for school. Her mother was washing their clothes when she went outside to bid her goodbye. "Mama, I'm going to school o", she mumbled. "Oh! Nwa m, please wait", her mother said as she got up, shook the water off her hands and cleaned them with the hem of the wrapper tied around her waist before she went inside shortly and came out with a naira note in her palm. She stretched the money towards Mimi, "Please manage this one to buy something for yourself" Mimi smiled gladly and thanked her mother after collecting the money.

Luckily for her, there was no rainfall the previous night so the path she usually took to school was not flooded and unbearable which made it easier for students like her to reach school earlier and less dirtier. She was still walking briskly with perspiration dropping down her body from her face when she heard someone yell her name, "Mimi! Mimi! Wait for me!" she turned back and smiled brightly when she saw the caller. It was Ngozi, her classmate and closest friend, "Ngozi, how far na?", she greeted. Ngozi replied" I dey o, shey na school u dey go?" Mimi frowned before she replied sarcastically, "No o,na farm" Ngozi laughed shortly before saying "I dey see am so". The duo chatted till they arrived at the school but unfortunately, they were three minutes late and some prefects were at the 'gate' punishing the latecomers. It wasn't really a gate, just a wide path between two large trees which served as the school's gate because the students were prohibited from using any other entrance into the school. A prefect was flogging a latecomer mercilessly as they arrived in the school. Mimi cringed when she saw who the prefect was. Emeka.
He was the big bad bully of the school ever since he came there in ss1. He got into many fights frequently and was nearly expelled once. He was given the post of Punctuality/Assistant labour prefect because of his stature and the fear he commanded from the students. He used it to his advantage and tortured so many students either because of late coming or if they were under punishment and were handed over to him by the school authorities. Things became sore for Mimi when she tickled his fancy and he asked her to be his girl which she blatantly refused. Since then, he strived hard to make life at school a living hell for her and her friends. He smirked evilly when he saw them coming towards the line of latecomers and intensified his flogging on the poor student. While Mimi and Ngozi were fidgeting ahout the 'hot soup' they were ahout to take that cold morning, they saw another prefect holding a cane walking towards them. As he got closer, Mimi smiled because she knew and liked him. Senior Moses. He was the Senior Prefect of the school. He went up to Emeka and whispered something in his ear which made him to wipe the sweat of his face, shoot a hateful look at Mimi before he strutted into the school compound. Senior Moses started flogging them in a much lighter way than Emeka and the remaining students were jubilant despite the fact that they were still going to be flogged.

Mimi literally ran home because the sky was darkening as more clouds started to appear and she did not want to be stuck outside her home especially since she delayed in school after the closing bell rang because Senior Moses aided her with her mathematics assignment which she found difficult. The sky was really dark and cloudy now and it was getting difficult to see due to the wind and dust hovering in the enviromment which was caused by the swaying of the trees and grasses. She silently prayed that the rain should be suspended in the sky until she gets home safely. When she ran till her strength started to fail her, she walked sluggishly till she arrived at the old and tired looking three bedroom apartment she shared with her mother. Immediately, her foot stepped into the house, the heavens opened with full force.
