Chapter 9

Alejandro’s P.O.V.

        Aina had become extremely affectionate towards me. It was unexpected at first, but I didn’t mind. I always had a thing for her, but she was all over Adrià. Since he started hanging out with Zoe, she’s been all over me. Today we had the day off, and Adrià and I decided to go to central park to play some b-ball.

        It took me a really long time to find what I wanted to wear. I put on my Boston Celtics jersey while Adrià wore his NY Knicks one. While we were getting dressed there were a couple of jokes thanks to our shirts, and the mess in our room started to grow.

        “So, how are things with Aina?” Adrià asked me as he grabbed the basketball and we started to make our way out.

        “Good. I think.” I said taking the ball away from his hands and started messing around with it.

        “What do you mean by I think?” He said making fun of me. He didn’t have to mention Zoe. I knew things between them were amazing, it was written all over his face. He had been happier since he met her. He has been through a lot of things this past year, with his father’s cancer and being away from him.

        I admired him a lot. He was a great friend, and he was always there for me. I haven’t had anything as bad as him, but he always had a smile on his face. His mother and sister were the same way. I was always greeted in that household as if it was my own. They were really close and welcomed everyone as family. It was something I wished my family would do too.

         A couple of the other guys had joined us and I used that to my advantage. I didn’t want to answer Adrià’s question. I didn’t want to tell him how I wasn’t sure that Aina’s feelings were true. I feel sometimes like she is using me to get Adrià’s attention.

        We started playing basketball and I noticed the group of girls joining us. They just sat by the edge of the court cheering for us. They were busier taking pictures and talking between each other about something. Aina was calling out my name and cheering for me. It felt nice to have her cheering for me.

        “She’s into you.” Adrià whispered in my ear as he passed me. I tried to not let it get to head. .

Adrià’s P.O.V.

        Alejandro passed me the ball and I dunked it one more time. Of course we were winning, I was the tallest guy here and pretty much kicking ass. I tried to take the ball from one of the guys when I noticed her coming to the court, just like she promised. Her hair loose and wearing a dress. I thought she was going to sleep in today, since we went to bed pretty late talking on the phone.

        “Go Adrià” She screamed making everyone turn to look at her. Her hair moving thanks to the wind as she stood there with a wide smile on her face. She giggled and waved to everyone that recognized her from 4th of july. She pushed back her hair and started making her way towards the group.

        We continued to play for about 10 more minutes and decided to just head out to eat something. I made my way towards Zoe immediately and wrapped my arms around her holding her close to me. She tried pushing me away since I was all sweaty but I wasn’t going to let her. I loved having her this close and as the days passed I kept realizing how this might come to an end.

        “Adrià, you are so gross.” She said giggling and giving up. She rested her face against my chest.

        “You love me.” I said holding her chin up to kiss her.

        “Love birds, let’s go.” Alejandro screamed at us making us move. We didn’t want to of course, and in the back of my mind I kept thinking about our last night together in her bedroom. We followed the group holding hands. Zoe and I didn’t speak, we just held hands and looked at our surroundings. They all were speaking and I noticed Aina was holding hands with Alejandro.

        He really liked Aina and I really hope they end up together. I didn’t know what her intentions were. She is usually a clingy girl that gets attached to every single guy that was nice to her. It didn’t help that she was beautiful. Guys would always look at her, but she just wasn’t my type. Maybe she was going to to break his heart, but I wanted him to experience what I am going through. I looked over at Zoe who was smiling today. The dress looked great on her and she wasn’t wearing sneakers or boots. She had sandals today, which had taken me by surprise. I didn’t think she was that kind of girl. I wanted to kiss her again, and maybe hopefully do something that was just us again.

        We arrived at the Wendy’s and everyone started making the line to order food. Zoe and I  followed them hugging while we made the line and ordering like a couple. Once we had our food, we grabbed a table for ourselves. She sat down and I watched her as she started eating at her fries. She didn’t say a word. She just smiled at me and ate.

        “I was just wondering something,” I said making her look up at me again.

        “What?” She said starting to bite her bottom lip.

        “I know I am being a bit quick about this… we are going to keep this going even after the summer is over?” I asked making her look down at the table.

        “I hope so.” She said with a half smile.

 

Zoe’s P.O.V.

        Adrià’s question took my by surprise. I was living in the now so much that I hadn’t thought about the end of summer. I didn’t want this to end. It was the first time I felt like this type of connection with someone. I didn’t know how to tell him exactly how I was feeling with the whole situation. I just ate my food in silence keeping my mouth full so words wouldn’t come out.

        Once the food was gone, I knew I had to talk. Adrià didn’t force me to talk. He just talked to about his life to fill in the void that was supposed to be filled with my voice. The group started to part ways and Adrià and I ended up in the group that decided to go back to central park. I walked behind him not wanting him to read my face, but when he stopped and I bumped against him, I had to come out of my bubble.

        “Zoe, what’s wrong?” He said as he sat down on the bench. I sat down next to him with my legs crossed and facing hm.

        “I’m just thinking about us.” I said looking at my hands that were on his left leg. He reach out to hold one of my hands and t made me look up at him. “I think I might be falling in love with you.” I said not being able to control the words coming out of my mouth. “That was way too kick to say, I know.” I said feeling a tear come out.

        “I am falling in love with you too...” He said caressing my cheek and pulling me into a sweet kiss. “I’m afraid that you might be changing for me, that is my only concern.” He said pushing my hair back.

        “I am not.” I said touching the tip of his nose.

        “Are you sure?” He said raising an eyebrow at me. “Our first night together, you pretended to smoke; you drank a whole bottle of tequila; and got into bed with a complete stranger. I haven’t seen you those things since that day.” He said making me want to hide.

        “I told you why I pretend to smoke, and I said sorry about the drinking and seducing you.” I said hiding my face with my hands.

        “I can’t complain.” He said pulling my hands away. “I’ve enjoyed myself every step of the way.” He said making me look into his eyes.
