Warren
I couldn't believe it. I had found her. I was so overcome joy I could feel my wolf nipping that the edge of my consciousness, begging to be let out. As soon as Sophia was gone I let my wolf take over, shifting in the woods. My wolf ran the rest of the way home to Black Mountain. He couldn't contain his happiness at having found her. Neither could I. My family, on the other and, was not going to be happy.
When I reached the house I shifted outside. My mother always got fussy when we brought our wolves inside the house. Despite us living in a mansion with plenty of room to walk about in wolf form, she still got testy. I could hear everyone moving around and taking inside. James and Charles must have woken them when they got back. I slipped on another pair of sweatpants left out for me on the porch and went inside.
"Are you sure it's her?" My father was the first to speak as I stepped through large oak door into the entry hall.
"I don't think it's something I'm likely to be wrong about," I shot back. There were ten of us who lived at Black Mountain and everyone was present and accounted for. Ready to gang up on me.
"It can't be her," he said.
"Well it is." I knew he wouldn't like it but I wasn't going to deny who she was to me. Just thinking about her made me smile despite the tense climate of the house.
"This is some bad luck," James muttered.
"What are we going to do?" Cyrus butt in. He was the Beta, my dad's second in command. "This is a disaster."
"Do you think I don't know how bad this is?" I practically shouted. "I didn't ask for this so stop acting like I did."
"Enough," my mother said as she strolled into the room. Mary Mahoney was a 4 foot 9 plump lady with a heart almost as big as her eyes. She was loved by everyone and loved them all right back. She was the peace keeper in the house and the only women. She also wasn't shy about making sure we knew who was really in control. "We can worry about what this all means later. For right now I just want to celebrate the fact that my boy found his mate."
Mate. The word had never sounded sweeter.
My mom embraced me in one of her perfect cure the world of all its problems hugs. "James and Charles said you found her in the woods?" she asked incredulously as she pulled back.
"She was out for a run."
"What did you tell her about why you were out there?" Nathan demanded. Nathan was the third in command and always the most serious of the group.
"That we were running too," Charles spoke up.
"And she believed you?"
"Considering the fact that she was out running herself I don't think she was suspicious of anything." Nathan growled at Charles's condescending tone.
"Enough," my mother demanded. "Why were you really out there?"
"I felt her. It woke me from my sleep. I needed to figure out what it was.I brought the boys with me just in case."
"Robert," my mother said. "Isn't there something you would like to say?"
"Congratulations son," my dad came over and patted me on the back. I knew the moment of shared happiness would be brief. "We're going to need to call a meeting."
Cyrus and Nathan nodded their heads in agreement.
"No," I said. "Not yet."
"Warren," my dad started. "You know we need to. The witches will not be happy that you're mated to one of theirs, let alone the most powerful offspring they've had in a thousand years. They're going to think it's quite convenient you being mated to someone with all of that power. Not to mention, we are still at odds with them. We need to tread lightly to avoid any more issues."
