"What's your name?"
"Koji. Koji Power"
"Repeat your last name"
"Power"
"What does that mean?"
"Capability"
"Wrong. Power is freedom. You use your name and you use that bitch right Koji. Use it with pride, use it with respect and use it with integrity, I don't ever want to catch you take it for granted. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir"
"This world ain't always gone be kind to you son. It's going to be a long ride and at some point you'll start to lose faith. But if you ever do you remember this conversation and you remember it until I am nothing but bones in a box buried six feet in the ground. You are different. You are prideful and you are power. Don't ever forget that"
"Ok Daddy"
"Now...tell me what does power mean?"
"Me"
Bzz! Bzz! Bzz!
The sounds of blaring sirens rang through the ears of a eighteen year old Koji Nasir Power. His brown eyes slowly opening since he wasn't even sleeping. It was the first day of summer vacation and there he was. Laying in bed dreaming about his six-year old self having one of many important conversations with his father Kanaj.
Koji let a deep breath escape his pink lips, peeling his covers off of his body and walking across the room to retrieve his Iphone 6s which was still ringing off the hook.

Thursday, June 5
Stretching a little bit in place, Koji slipped his phone in the pocket of his red basketball shorts that seemed to accent his caramel skin. He ran his fingers over his thick hair which was neatly resting in a puff above his head. Walking down the stairs of the two story house he shared with his Father, Mother, Sister and brother, Koji entered the kitchen where Kalani, his sister resided eating a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios.
"Morning Lani" He yawned tapping his sister's dark brown cheeks twice before peering over her shoulder to peek at her phone.
"Jeez Sir get out of my business" Kalani grumbled lightly nudging Koji with her elbow.
Chuckling just a little bit, Koji opened up the refrigerator to retrieve the last carton of milk as well as a the cereal from on top of the refrigerator.
"Really Lani?" He scoffed wiggling the carton to reveal nothing was inside of it.
"Oh that was empty? I'm sorry" She smirked flashing a fake smile.
Nobody would believe it even when they tried to tell people, but Koji and Kalani were fraternal twins. Their key differences such as their skin colors and hair textures distracted people from the fact that they looked and acted just alike.
"You knew it was empty" Koji squinted his eyes at Lani before blowing another breath. "I guess I'll go to the store, I need to pick up my check anyway...Mom and Dad still sleeping?"
"They're upstairs but I don't think they're sleeping though. Mama's probably up watching cartoons like the nine year old she is" Lani snickered.
Koji nodded in agreement, laughing alongside his sister's words before jogging back up the stairs to his parents room. Their double door was a fancy red and gold which contrasted the plain black that the rest of the house was painted.
